Glenhaven News
Sept. 19-25
Another beautiful week of weather! Now if it would only last until about April.
We tried a new game this week-Jeopardy. The residents really seemed to enjoy it, so I think it will become a regular on our calendar. The winner in C household was Bev Thompson, and in D was Selma Sloth. Everyone did a great job for our first try at this game. They did very well on the animals, food and fruit topics, but the music and countries topics proved to be a little more challenging. Acting as host, I was really surprised they couldn’t come up with Elvis Presley’s name, even with my extra clues. I’m an Elvis fan, of course, so was a little surprised. Paula did know that he was young and good-looking!
Residents did exercises in their rooms on Monday and Thursday mornings. We do some stretching and limbering up of their joints.
Many people asked to listen to church services on Youtube this week, and Pastor Jonathan from Holy Cross also hosted a Bible Study session on Youtube, which many of our residents used to attend down at Havenwood on Wednesdays. It was also nice to see Pastor Jonathan and his helpers pay a window visit to residents.
We did a fall craft project on Tuesday afternoon in the households. They were fall wreaths for their doors, and turned out very nice. We will be doing some with the Havenwood residents next week.
The beauty shop was in full swing on Wednesday morning, and Bingo was hosted in E household in the afternoon. Ned Hahn was kind enough to come and show the residents his horse, Buck, and his wagon on Wednesday afternoon. Jill Logghe also accompanied him on the ride. They went around all the buildings and waved and talked to residents. It was a beautiful day that day, so when Jill called and asked about coming, I told her today would be great, and Ned was kind enough to oblige, even though he had hay at home to take care of.
Carol did manicures on Thursday afternoon and has been working on doing fall decorating in the hallways and households.
Popcorn Day was Friday, and residents enjoyed outside time in the afternoon. We have had many outside family visits taking place, which is great to see. We need to make full use of these nice days, as they probably won’t last much longer. Plans are underway for indoor visits for when the cold weather arrives. As with the outdoor visits, rules for visits will be posted and appointments will need to be made.
We celebrated Janet Dettman’s birthday this week. Happy Birthday, Janet!
Everyone stay healthy and have a good week.
