Glenhaven News
July 6-10
We hope you all are having a great week after celebrating the 4th of July. The summer heat has kept most of the residents inside the building but there are a few that really love the humidity that comes with our Wisconsin summers.
On Monday we did 1 on 1 exercises with residents who wanted to participate. We go to each of their rooms and do light stretching while in a chair. Some of them really like to be active and some smile at you when you ask and say “No thank you.” In the afternoon we “gathered” in the doorways to do a Giant Crossword. This is a favorite with most of our residents as it makes them really think.
On Tuesday some residents watched church on their TV’s. We also have IPads here for the residents to use in their room. A few of them enjoy watching church on the IPad. If you want to face time your family member please contact us so we can set it up. We know it is not the same as a face to face visit but anything would help cheer up the residents. Tuesday was also Bev Thompson’s 91st birthday. Family brought in cupcakes and ice cream for the residents and staff to enjoy. They were wonderful! Thanks so much!
Wednesdays are for BINGO and In house beauty shop. Let me tell you some of our ladies are growing their hair out after years. It is fun for this writer to set and style their hair. We are NOT professionals but we really do try our very best to give them a little boost. BINGO was on the agenda for the afternoon. It is always a resident favorite.
Thursday morning was spent trying to convince some residents that in room exercise is a good idea. They are not always so keen on the idea but some of them know that they feel better after they get moving. In the afternoon we did some card making. We got out our stamps and ink and pens and glitter. They really seemed to enjoy being crafty. Thursday was also National Sugar Cookie Day. Doris made our residents homemade sugar cookies and they were so pleased. If you know Doris you know that she is the best cook and baker so when the residents hear that she made it, they always want to try.
Friday is Popcorn Day. The residents love snacks and popcorn seems to be a favorite. We tended to our garden and let me tell you it is nothing to write home about. Is anyone else having issues with their beans this year? We can’t seem to keep the deer away. There have been lots of sightings of Mama’s and their fawns around Glenhaven. The residents love catching glimpses of the wild life. If only we could keep the wild life out of our veggie garden. Friday afternoon finished out with tending to plants and outside time as it was beautiful out. We have so many yellow and purple finches here. They are so much fun for the residents to watch and man oh man can they empty a bird feeder in no time. Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy the sunshine.
