COLFAX — Two of the people in this story from the Colfax Messenger archives, Larry Edwards and Duane Schindler, received quilts from the Northwoods Quits of Valor at a presentation March 29 at the Viking Bowl.
Jim Irwin received a Quilt of Valor during a Veterans Day presentation November 11, 2024.
From the November 20, 1969, Colfax Messenger — “Three Localites Meet By Chance in Vietnam.”
Here is the story:
“Larry Edwards, who is now at home in Colfax, was standing at the 25th Division Headquarters in Vietnam on November 9, completing his arrangements for going home after 14 months of active duty there, when someone tapped him on the shoulder and called him by his full name.
“He was mighty surprised when he turned and was face to face with James Irwin, a fellow high school mate, who is now on active duty there.
“Together they went to the mess hall where another surprise awaited them, for there they encountered Duane Schindler, another Colfaxite, who had just arrived there and who was busily dishing out food in the chow line.
“That evening, the three got together to reminisce, bid a farewell to Larry and a welcome to Duane. They noted that both Duane and James will serve as Wolfhounds in the 25th Division, the unit that Larry had been part of.”
The story about Larry Edwards and Duane Schindler receiving Quilts of Valor is published elsewhere in this issue.
