Don’t forget to vote in the spring election next Tuesday
Local town, village, school boards plus state, county Judges, and a state Constitutional Amendment is on the April First Ballot.
Wisconsin electors will be asked to vote on a Constitutional amendment that voters will see a proposal that would add a voter ID requirement to the state constitution.
Wisconsin already has a state statue that requires photo ID in order to vote. By constitutionalizing this requirement, the amendment would, if approved, make it more difficult for a future legislature or court to change course on voter ID.
State Superintendent of schools
Seeking to be returned for another four-year term, as the head of the state school system is Jill Underly. She is being challenged by Brittany Kinser.
In a published article, Underly said, “She makes this claim, that only 3 in 10 kids are able to read or that they are college ready, that makes absolutely no sense.” Kinser, an educational consultant from Wauwatosa spent ten years working in Chicago Public Schools, and another ten working in public charter schools.
Underly said, “We have to really look at our school funding formula, with Kinser agreeing saying, “everyone agrees the school funding formula is broken.”
Wisconsin Supreme Court
A court race that has drawn national attention, is the open seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Liberal Judge Susan Crawford, and conservative Brad Schimel are vying to replace outgoing Justice Ann Walsh Bradley for the 10-year term on the state’s highest court in a race that will determine whether liberals maintain their 4-3 majorities.
In a piece written by Grace Panetta, she noted that, “The April 1 contest is attracting significant outside spending and attention, including from Trump ally Elon Musk. As Musk reshaped the federal government with significant job and spending cuts through the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, his political groups have already dropped over $12 million into supporting Schimel.
“With different parties controlling the legislature and governor’s office in Wisconsin, the state Supreme Court plays a critical role in ruling on policies ranging from abortion to labor rights and election disputes. Conservatives winning back control of the court would represent a major victory in a state where Republicans have long held the levers of power, but where Democrats have been making inroads.
