Boyceville boys drop regional basketball opener at Ladysmith

LADYSMITH — The Boyceville boys regional basketball tournament run was brief – just one game.
As it turned out, the 13th seeded Bulldogs had a tough draw as they had to make a long trip to Ladysmith last Tuesday, March 4 to face the Lumberjacks, the number 4 seed, in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal.
Ladysmith (21-6), who finished in a three-way tie for third place in a strong Heart O’ North Conference with a 13-5 record, ended Boyceville’s season with a 82-54 victory.
The Bulldogs, who scored 27 points in each half, trailed 39-27 at intermission. The Lumberjacks added to their lead in the second half as it scored 43 points in the final 18 minutes of play.
Ladysmith was led by four players in double figures. Andrew Lehman topped the Lumberjack scoring chart with 23 points, Timmy Meltz was right behind him with 22 points, Louis Zimmer scored 14 and Braeden Little added ten points.
Ladysmith collected 37 rebounds and finished with 17 steals against Boyceville.
The Lumberjacks went on to defeat both Chippewa Falls McDonell Central (#5) and Clear Lake (#1) to win the regional crown. They will play fellow HON member and co-champ Cumberand (20-5) in Thursday night’s D4 sectional semifinal.
Unfortunately, no individual or team statistics for Boyceville were reported online or provided to the Tribune Press Reporter despite requests for the information.
With the loss, Boyceville finished its 2024-25 hardwood campaign with a 7-18 record.
The Bulldogs said goodbye to a four seniors. The regional loss was the final game for Dominic Anderson, Blaine Severson, Carson Lindstrom and Nathan Jensen.
