The Boyceville boys’ basketball team wrapped up a busy week playing three games in five days, in which they won a pair of home contests. The two wins improve their record to 6-16 on the season, including a 3-10 conference record.
They opened action on February 17 hosting Prairie Farm and jumped to the 28-19 advantage at halftime. They exploded for 36, second-half points, as three Bulldogs scored in double figures, to beat the Panthers 64-51.
They hosted Mondovi on February 20 for a rescheduled weather game from two days prior. The Bulldogs held a young, three-win Buffalo team to only 56 points as they pulled out the ten-point win 66-56.
They concluded the week traveling to Dunn-St. Croix conference co-leader Durand-Arkansaw on February 21. The Panthers jumped out to a commanding 37-19 halftime lead. The Bulldog offense stepped up in the second half, however Durand-Arkansaw proved too strong and prevailed 68-47.
Prairie Farm
The Bulldogs were able to pull out to a 14-8 lead midway through the first half. Five apiece from Landyn Leslie and Owen Rydel helped pace the Bulldog offense. Four points from Madison on the inside balanced out the Bulldog attack as the Boyceville defense was able to keep the Panthers in check.
Six points from Tegan Lydon boosted the Bulldog offense down the stretch of the first half as Boyceville grabbed the 28-19 lead at halftime.
The Bulldog offense warmed up the second half. A pair of three pointers from Rydel, and one from Lydon had Prairie Farm on their toes. Madison kept the Panthers honest with his inside presence as he connected on four field goals and a free throw to score nine points after halftime.
Boyceville was perfect in the second half from the free throw line, connecting on all five attempts, as they secured the 64-51 win.
Rydel put in 20 points on the evening to lead the Bulldogs. Lydon had 15 points, while Madison added 13. Carson Roemhild grabbed a game high 17 rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Mondovi
Madison and Rydel carried the Bulldogs in their match up with Mondovi. The duo combined for 46 of the 66 points on the night and accounted for all but six of their first-half points. Madison put in 15 first half points and Rydel accounted for ten as Boyceville led 31-21 at intermission.
Roemhild joined the scoring parade in the second half, scoring ten of his 12 points post-halftime. However, the main story on the night was Boyceville’s big-man as he dropped in an additional baker’s dozen in the second half to propel his squad to the ten-point win over the Buffaloes 66-56.
Madison ended the game with 28 points on 10-of-11 shooting and pulled down 15 rebounds on the night. Rydel added 18 points, while Roemhild had 12 rebounds to go with his dozen points.
Durand-Arkansaw
Madison continued his inside dominance against the Panthers. He scored eight of his 12 points in the first half. Lydon, Roemhild, and Rydel had a three pointer apiece to keep the Panther defense honest.
Regardless, Boyceville struggled controlling the twosome of Parker Almsted and Luke Weber. The pair account for 24 first-half points as the Panthers went into intermission up 37-19.
Rydel heated up in the second half as the junior hit on five field goals, including one from behind the arc. Lydon and Blaine Severson also connected from deep, but the Bulldogs didn’t overcome the deficit and fell 68-47.
Rydel paced Boyceville with 14 points, while Roemhild was the third Bulldog in double figures with ten points. He also pulled down 11 boards to make it three straight games with double-digit rebounds.
Boyceville wraps up the final week of the regular season with a pair of home games. They hosted Flambeau (16-5) on February 24 (game recap available in next week’s edition). D-SC conference co-leader Spring Valley visits on February 27 for the regular season finale with a 7:15 p.m. tipoff.
The Bulldogs enter the WIAA Division 4 boys’ basketball tournament as #13 seed and travel to #4 seed Ladysmith next Tuesday, March 4 with a game time of 7:00 p.m.
