BOYCEVILLE — Starting the second round of Dunn-St. Croix Conference play, the Colfax girls’ basketball team traveled to Boyceville Thursday, January 23 and defeated the Bulldogs 65-34. Earlier in the season, Colfax also prevailed 54-27 over Boyceville.
After Kaysen Goodell of Colfax and Boyceville’s Chelsi Holden both scored, the Vikings used a five-point run with free throws by Clara Hydukovich and a Goodell triple for a 7-2 lead.
Brooklyn Talmage then came up with a three-point shot followed by a jumper for the Bulldogs to knot the score at 7-7 Another Colfax triple, this one from Jordyn Bowe broke the tie and after a Holden free toss, the Vikings rolled for 11 consecutive points including three shots in the paint by Bowe, a three ball from Sierra Shipman and a deuce from Brynn Sikora for a 21-10 advantage.
Boyceville’s Aubrey Malean knocked down a free throw and drilled a triple and Holden scored in the paint but that was all the points they put up in the half. Meanwhile Colfax added eight points on four more close range shots, one from Sikora, two from Bowe and a final put back by Hydukovich and the teams went to the locker room with the Vikings up 29-16.
Shipman started the second half with a bucket under the hoop, but Malean countered with two free tosses. After Hydukovich scored on another offensive rebound and Bowe connected on two free throws, Malean added three points the old fashioned way with a bucket and a free throw. Zoey Hellendrung followed by dropping in a deuce to cut the Colfax lead to 35-21. Sikora and Hellendrung exchanged two point shots before Lyric Nichols added a deuce for the Vikings and Goodell drained a shot from long range to put the Vikings up 42-25.
After Emma Harvey hit a deuce for Boyceville, Colfax scored 10 consecutive points for a 52-27 advantage. Blake Jeske finally broke the streak with a free toss, but Bowe canned a triple while Goodell scored on a layup for a 57-28 Viking lead and Colfax outscored Boyceville 8-4 the rest of the way to finish with the 31-point win.
Malean and Talmage led the Bulldogs with nine points each. Chelsi Holden added five points and Zoey Hellendrung chipped in four. Blake Jeske and Aubrey Malean topped the rebounding charts with nine and seven boards, respectively. Malean added four assists with Ellie Engeman registering three. The team made 8-of-11 free throws and two triples.
Bowe was high scorer for the night with 21 points, including a 5-for-5 performance at the foul line and a pair of triples. Goodell finished with 14 points with a couple of treys, Hydukovich added 11 points and collected 10 rebounds and Sikora picked up 10 points. Bowe led in assists with eight and Shipman pulled down nine boards. The Vikings were 7-for-7 from the charity stripe with six triples.
The Bulldogs had also been scheduled to host Prairie Farm Monday, January 20, but sub-zero temperatures postponed the matchup which has yet to be rescheduled.
Boyceville was in Elk Mound last evening, Tuesday, January 28, and return home Friday to play Elmwood-Plum City. Next Tuesday, February 4, the girls will host Chetek-Weyerhaeuser for Parents’ Night.
