BOYCEVILLE — The Boyceville girls’ basketball team took advantage of Lake Holcombe’s numerous turnovers when it hosted the Lady Chieftains in a non-conference basketball contest on Monday, December 16, turning several into points, lots of points.
In fact, the Bulldogs put so many biscuits in the basket, particularly in the first half, that they held a commanding 39 to 8 lead at halftime.
While Boyceville’s fast-paced scoring spree slowed considerably in the second half, the Bulldogs still doubled up the Chieftains (16-8) and wound up with a convincing 55-16 triumph. It was Boyceville’s second straight win and evened their record at 4-4 heading into the holiday break.
Boyceville was also scheduled to host rival Glenwood City last Thursday, but a winter snow fall closed both schools for the day and postponed the match-up until February 17.
Six Bulldogs got in on the first-half scoring frenzy when the Chieftains came to the Dog House December 16.
Sophomore Aubrey Malean hit four deuces and made all five of her foul shots to collect 13 of her game-high 17 points in the Bulldogs 39-point, first-half scoring explosion. Freshmen Blake Jeske and Brooklyn Talmage each registered a three and had eight and seven points, respectively, in the opening half. Jeske nailed two more triples in the latter half to finish with 14 points while Talmage added a hoop to bring her final tally to nine. Ellie Engeman also scored nine points including a three to bring the Bulldogs three-point tally to five, which was one less than all of Lake Holcombe’s baskets cobimed.
Jeske had eight rebounds and five steals to lead Boyceville in both categories. Malean and Engeman added four steals each. Malean also had four boards as did Zoey Hellendrung.
Both squads finished just 50 percent from the charity stripe. Boyceville made six of 12 attempts while Lake Holcombe finished 4-for-8.
The Chieftains did not make a shot from behind the three-point arc.
Boyceville will take this week off before returning to action on Friday, January 3 with a non-conference road game at Independence.
