Competing in six duals in a three-day span last week, the Boyceville wrestling team finished 1-5.
The Bulldogs traveled to Clear Lake last Thursday, December 12 for a non-conference dual with the Warriors. Boyceville held a 36-10 advantage, but lost the final five matches of the dual via pin falls and were defeated 40-36.
Two days later, Boyceville made its annual trip to Wisconsin Dells to compete in the 32-team Duals in the Dells tournament. The Bulldogs won just one of their five duals and finished in eighth place in the Consolation Chart.
Clear Lake
Boyceville saw a sizable advantage lead and an opportunity for victory quickly disappear when it wrestled in Clear Lake December 12.
After Clear Lake won the opening match at 157 pounds via major decision, the Bulldogs won five straight matches to take what appeared to be a comfortable lead. Jack Gruenhagen (165), Mark Knopps (175) and Isaiah Romero (215) scored pins for Boyceville while Liam Moore and Zach Hellendrung were awarded forfeits at 190 and 285 pounds, respectively, to give the Bulldogs a 30-4 advantage.
After a Clear Lake was awarded a forfeit at 106 pounds, Boyceville received a forfeit at 120 pounds to go ahead 36-10.
Unfortunately, Boyceville lost the final five bouts of the dual via pins as Clear Lake rallied for a 40-36 victory.

Duals at the Dells
Action at last Saturday’s Duals at the Dells, hosted by the Chula Vista Resort, started well for Boyceville as it claimed its first dual victory of the season with an opening round 45-35 win over Oshkosh North in the Consolation Chart bracket.
Unfortunately, the Bulldogs lost their final four duals of the tournament as they were beaten 51-29 by Stevens Points, 49-30 by Greenfield, fell 57-21 to Kimberly in the seventh-place match and lost 69-12 to La Crosse Aquinas in a crossover match with the Championship cart.
Junior Zach Hellendrung finished the tournament with a 4-1 mark at 285 pounds with three, first-period pins and a forfeit.
Victor Pattermann also went 4-1 in the Dells at 138 pounds with all four of his wins via pins. Isaiah Romero was 3-2 at 215 pounds and Bryce Christopherson was 2-1 at 144 pounds.
