COLFAX — Now that Colfax high school no longer has a big athletic banquet in the spring, every team has their own banquet to honor their athletes.
For the Viking football team, senior Theo Hovde was recognized as a team captain and was Most Accountable while earning a second team All Dunn-St. Croix Conference player award as a defensive back and a backfield player. Senior Drew Buchner was also a team captain and was chosen honorable mention All D-SC as a defensive back, along with honorable mention pick junior Orion Nichols as a wide receiver. Sophomore Grant Cook was named AC honorable mention as a defensive lineman and earned the team’ s Most Coachable award. Seniors Brady Elmer, Nate Boesl and Hunter Roberts were also recognized as Viking team captains.
Other awards presented were Most Selfless to sophomore Austyn Pederson and Most Respectful to sophomore Zac Liermo.
Varsity head coach Joe Beranek commented on the 2024 winless season:
“While the season was not one to write home about record wise, I am proud of the kids who stuck with this team throughout the year and gave their all no matter what the scoreboard showed,” he said. “Of 25 student-athletes on our roster, four are bringing home All Conference honors which is something to be proud of. Several kids on our roster built valuable experience through playing time in both varsity and junior varsity competitions. 17 of 25 student-athletes on our roster earned a varsity letter this year,” he added.
“We have a large returning team (only five seniors graduated) with a large incoming freshmen class, (13 eighth graders this year) “ he continued. “Ultimately, our mission is to build well-rounded young people who are great contributors to the world around them. I feel as though we have instilled several important values and skills that these kids can take advantage of in the “real world”. I’m proud of this team for never giving up nor backing down to a challenge,” he concluded.
