COLFAX — The November 5 ballots in Dunn County and St. Croix County included candidates for United States President, United States Senate and Congress and for Wisconsin Senate District 10 and Assembly District 28.
The state Senate and Assembly districts have different boundaries after the legislative maps were redrawn.
U.S. President
According to unofficial election results, Donald Trump won the November 5 general election with 72.8 million votes, resulting in 295 electoral college votes.
Kamala Harris received 63.13 million votes, resulting in 226 electoral college votes.
Trump won the states of Wyoming, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Utah, Texas, Tennessee, South Dakota, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Ohio, Nebraska (4 electoral votes), North Dakota, North Carolina, Montana, Mississippi, Missouri, Michigan, Maine (1 electoral vote), Louisiana, Kentucky, Kansas, Indiana, Idaho, Iowa, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Alabama and Alaska.
Harris won the states of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Washington D.C., Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine (3 electoral votes), Minnesota, Nebraska (1 electoral vote), New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont and Washington.
At the time this article was written, all of the votes had not yet been counted in the states of Arizona (11 electoral votes) and Nevada (6 electoral votes).
U.S. Senate
According to unofficial election results, incumbent United States Senator Tammy Baldwin won the election with 1,672,550 votes (49.4 percent).
Senator Baldwin was elected as a member of Congress representing Wisconsin’s 2nd Congressional District in 1998 and was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012.
The Republican candidate, Eric Hovde, received 1,643,592 votes (48.5 percent).
Hovde is the owner of Sunwest Bank, which has offices in Arizona, California, Florida, Idaho and Utah.
3rd district
Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District includes the counties of Adams, Buffalo, Chippewa, Crawford, Dunn, Eau Claire, Grant, Jackson, Juneau, La Crosse, Monroe, Pepin, Pierce, Portage, Richland, Trempealeau, Vernon and Wood.
Incumbent Republican Congressman Derrick Van Orden received 211,696 votes (51.4 percent).
Van Orden was first elected to Congress in 2022 after Congressman Ron Kind decided to retire.
Rebecca Cooke, the Democratic candidate for the 3rd Congressional District, received 200,556 votes (48.6 percent).
After college, Cooke returned to Eau Claire to start a small business and non-profit that provides start-up capital and hands-on education for women-owned businesses in western Wisconsin.
7th District
Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District includes the counties of Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Burnett, St. Croix, Chippewa, Clark, Douglas, Florence, Forest, Iron, Jackson (partial), Juneau (partial), Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Money, Oneida, Polk, Pierce, Rusk, Sawyer, Taylor, Vilas, Washburn and Wood (partial).
Incumbent Republican Congressman Tom Tiffany received 274,110 votes (63.6 percent).
Tiffany was first elected to represent Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District in May of 2020 after serving in the Wisconsin Assembly and Senate.
Kyle Kilbourn, the Democratic candidate for the 7th Congressional District, received 156,730 votes (36.4 percent).
During his career, Kilbourn has conducted research in Ireland around aging in place, understanding gas station users in Texas, Italy and Sweden and working with diabetic patients in India.
Senate Dist. 10
Wisconsin Senate District 10 in Dunn County includes the Towns of Eau Galle, Lucas, Stanton and Weston and the Villages of Downing and Knapp and also covers all of St. Croix County.
Senate District 10 contains Assembly District 28, Assembly District 29 and Assembly District 30.
Incumbent State Senator Rob Stafsholt, the Republican candidate for Senate District 10, received 66,646 votes (62.4 percent).
Stafsholt, of New Richmond, is serving his fourth term in the state Legislature.
Paul Hambleton, the Democratic candidate for Senate District 10, received 40,157 votes (37.6 percent)
Hambleton is a former Baldwin-Woodville Special Education teacher and English teacher.
District 28
Wisconsin Assembly District 28 includes all of St. Croix County and in Dunn County covers the Towns of Eau Galle, Lucas, Stanton, Weston and the Villages of Downing and Knapp.
Rob Kreibich, the Republican candidate on the ballot for Assembly District 28, received 23,975 votes (66.2 percent).
Kreibich formerly served in the state Assembly for 14 years and has been the president of the New Richmond Chamber of Commerce for nine years. He worked at NBC affiliate WEAU-TV in Eau Claire as a reporter and an anchor.
The Democratic candidate, Danielle Johnson, received 12,243 votes (33.8 percent).
Johnson settled in St. Croix County with her husband in 2009 and started Homestead Veterinary Clinic in Baldwin in 2011.
Johnson served on the Board of Western Wisconsin Health from January of 2015 to April of 2023 and is an Advisory Board Member for Northwoods Technical College Veterinary Technician Program. She also was a delegate to the Wisconsin Conservation Congress from April of 2023 to the present.
