CADOTT — Colfax senior Kaysen Goodell is state bound for the fourth time after qualifying at the WIAA Division 3 Cadott Cross Country Sectional meet held in Cadott last Saturday, October 26. She set a new personal best time of 20 minutes 2.2 seconds in the varsity girls 5K race, placing third out of 98 runners.
“Super proud of Kaysen making her fourth state appearance. She has built a great resume, two trips with her teammates and two alone,” said Colfax cross country head coach Joe Doucette. “She ran a new personal record and had to be super gutty down the stretch.”
Kira Dunn of Prairie Farm won the race with a time of 19:53.5 and Laney O’Brien of Augusta took second coming in just one second before Goodell. Goodell will run at the WIAA Division 3 state cross country meet in Wisconsin Rapids this Saturday, November 2. At the state meet she will face top runners from the eight sectional meets.
“Kaysen runs at noon on Saturday at state and it’s always exciting. Kaysen knows the course well,” said Doucette.
Neither the Viking girls nor the boys had enough athletes to form teams, but still put in a good effort, according to Doucette.
In the girls’ race, senior Hannah Peterson placed 17th with a time of 21:48, senior Lauren Becker placed 51st with a time of 23:46.4 and freshman Veronika Leavens placed 66th with a time of 24:25.8.

“The girls ran well, Hannah Peterson had an outside chance at possibly qualifying and went out hard but could not quite do it. The two-time, first-team all conference selection always runs her heart out. Lauren Becker and Veronika Leavens ran well again. Leavens had another pr,” noted Doucette.
In the boys’ competition, freshman Isaiah Entzminger was the first Viking over the finish line. He placed 30th out of 131 runners with a time of 18:27.3. Gavin Esterholm of Phillips won the race with a time of 16:19.
“Isaiah Entzminger again ran well to lead the boys. He has a great future,” said Doucette.
Other boy runners for Colfax were junior Charlie Charbonneau who placed 53rd, senior Logan Swartz who placed 82nd and junior Levi Elwood who placed 125th.
“Really a solid year for us. Having Kaysen represent us at state will be exciting,” said Doucette.

The small cross country program will lose seniors Goodell, Peterson, Becker and Swartz to graduation.
“They are great kids who worked hard and were great teammates and we are looking to keep improving, “ said Doucette.
