AARON AND KYA GIEBEL
By LeAnn R. Ralph
COLFAX — A benefit is scheduled for Aaron Giebel November 16 at the Menomonie Moose Lodge.
Aaron and his wife, Kya, live in the Connorsville area. Kya and her twin sister, Krista, graduated from Colfax High School and are the daughters of Tim and Tammy Dalhoe of Colfax.
On September 1 of this year, Aaron was helping a friend in the task of taking down an old cement silo.
As they were in the process of working on the silo, it began to fall.
Aaron ran to get out of the way and tripped over a piece of the silo he had taken down weeks earlier.
The silo fell on Aaron.
He was transported by helicopter to Mayo Eau Claire, and several days later on September 4, he was transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Most of the injuries Aaron suffered were to his right leg and included a broken tibia, broken fibula, a large laceration and significant muscle and tissue damage.
Several surgeries were performed in an effort to save Aaron’s leg.
On September 11, physicians made the decision to amputate Aaron’s lower right leg below the knee.
The benefit for Aaron Giebel will include a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, a chicken dinner as well as other activities.
The benefit will run from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, November 16, at the Menomonie Moose Lodge located at 720 19th Avenue East in Menomonie.
All of the funds raised will go to Aaron and Kya (Dalhoe) Giebel to help with medical expenses, travel expenses and bills while Aaron is recovering and learning how to navigate life as an amputee.
An account has been set up at Royal Credit Union for donations for the Aaron Giebel Benefit.
Sally Steinke of Colfax has been gathering donations in the Colfax area to help with the benefit.
“This community is amazing,” Steinke said.
Steinke said she believes all small towns pull together in a time of need but that Colfax seems to be especially compassionate.
The following businesses in the Colfax area have donated cash, gift certificates and raffle baskets for the Aaron Giebel benefit: Dollar General, the Blind Tiger, Kyle’s Market, Johnson Trailer Sales, Synergy Cooperative, Adam’s Auto Repair, Berres Chiropractic, A Little Slice of Italy, Mane Street Salon, H&H Plumbing, Kyle’s Buff & Shine and Mom’s Restaurant and Pub.
The donations from Colfax businesses have totaled nearly $1,000, according to Steinke’s calculations.
