BOYCEVILLE — The Elk Mound cross country teams competed at the Dunn-St. Croix conference meet held in Boyceville last Thursday, October 17.
The Mounder girls’ team placed third and the boys’ team placed fifth.
Ellie Schiszik and Jaidynn Sarauer earned first-team all conference designation after placing in the top seven at the competition which was held at Tiffany Creek Elementary.
The girls’ team scored 68 points and beat Spring Valley. Boyceville won the meet for a second straight year with a score of 27 and Durand-Arkansaw took second with 46 points. Colfax, Elmwood-Plum City, Glenwood City and Mondovi did not have enough runners to form teams.
Schiszik took third in the girls’ varsity 5K race out of 38 runners with a time of 20:51.46 and Sarauer placed fourth with a time of 21:12.36. Kaysen Goodell of Colfax won the race with a time of 20:34.78.
Allie Robel and Ellie Beskow were the third and fourth runners for the team. Robel placed 25th with a time of 24:58.61 and Beskow placed 31st with a time of 25:42.34. Kylee Anderson rounded out the scoring members of the team coming in at 25:52.03 and placing 33rd.
In the boys’ competition, Elk Mound scored 116 points besting Mondovi and Spring Valley. Glenwood City repeated as conference champions with a score of 47 points, Durand was second with 59, Colfax was third with 84 and Boyceville was fourth with 108. Elmwood-Plum City did not have enough runners for a team.
Hudson Banaszak, Dalton Banaszak and Brody Niven were the top runners on the Mounder boys and ran the race in less than 20 minutes. Hudson Banaszak, just missed the all-conference cut, when he placed 15th out of 64 runners with a time of 19:18.93. Dalton Banaszak placed 17th with a time of 19:25.09 and Brody Niven placed 19th coming in at 19:33.72. Zayne Richardson of Durand won the race with a time of 16:42.81.

Keston Niven and Jack Stroh also scored points. Keston Niven placed 30th with a time of 20:31.51 and Jack Stroh placed 35th with a time of 20:56.38.
The top seven runners in the girls’ and boys’ races earn first-team all-conference honors while runners eight through 14 make the second team.
Elk Mound will compete in the WIAA Division 2 sectional meet in Rice Lake this Friday, October 25. Competition will get underway at 4:30 pm with the girls’ race followed by the boys.
Middle School
In the middle school competition the Elk Mound boys team took first out of six teams with a score of 40. They beat Boyceville, Mondovi, Spring Valley, Durand and Glenwood City.
Runners that scored for the team were: Zach Knudsen who placed third, Jaxon Glaus who placed fourth, Brian Hase who placed ninth, Grady Westland who placed 12th and Victor Ludwig who placed 16th.
The girls team placed third with 77 points out of six teams. They beat Mondovi, Spring Valley and Durand. Boyceville won the meet with 41 points and Colfax placed second with 46 points.
Scoring runners for the team were: Emma Ottosen who placed 11th, Elise Carstens who placed 15th, Haddie Dummer who placed 17th, Natalie Schram who placed 22nd and Brooklyn Frinack who placed 24th.
