The Colfax volleyball team played two Dunn-St. Croix Conference matches last week and lost a very competitive match in four sets at Elmwood-Plum City October 1. Two days later they hosted Glenwood City and earned their first conference win by sweeping the Hilltoppers in three sets.

The first set was an extremely long one as the Vikings outlasted the Wolves 33-31 and although the second set took extra points also, the Vikings came out a little short, losing 29-27. The Wolves went on to take the next two sets and the match 25-18 and 26-24.
Brynn Sikora scored on 11 kills with five ace serves for Colfax while Sierra Shipman and Aubrey Rihn both tacked on seven kills each. Ruby Kunsman led the team in assists with 20 along with 12 from Jordyn Bowe and Shipman and Lydia Polkoski both scored on two blocks each at the net. Sikora finished with a team leading 23 digs, Bowe collected 21, Rihn picked up 13 and Kunsman added eight.

Glenwood City
Colfax was up 21-20 in a very close first set and pulled away for the win on a Hilltopper serving error and three points with Rihn at the service line for the 25-20 win. The Vikings led 11-6 in set number two but allowed the Hilltoppers to close the gap at 11-10 before Colfax coach Kari Sedivy called a time out. The Vikings proceeded to go on a 9-0 run to pull ahead 20-11 and eventually won 25-15. The third set was very competitive with the score knotted at 8-8 and the Toppers pulling ahead 12-10. Colfax came back to tie it up then rattled off six more points for an 18-13 advantage with Kunsman at the service line, but the Vikings put the hammer down for a 25-14 win to end the match.
Sikora was unstoppable slamming 16 of the Viking’s 39 kills while Rihn and Polkoski both picked up seven. Kunsman and Bowe combined for 38 assists in the match while Ava Sedivy finished with a team high 15 digs. Kunsman added 12 digs, Bowe and Rihn 10 and Sikora seven.
