It was another busy week for the Boyceville cross country teams as they traveled to Cumberland on October 1 and then to Spring Valley on October 3.
The varsity girls’ team won in Spring Valley and the boys placed fifth. In Cumberland, the girls placed fourth and the boys placed ninth.
Varsity Girls
In Spring Valley, the Bulldog girls scored just 35 points. Coming in second place was Prescott with a score of 42, Elk Mound was third with 74 points and Durand-Arkansaw was fourth with 78 points. Colfax, Elmwood-Plum City, Glenwood City and Spring Valley had runners that competed but none had enough to form teams.
Blake Jeske was the first member of the girls team to finish the varsity 5K race. She placed fifth out of 47 runners with a time of 21:27.4. Kyra Dix of Prescott won the race with a time of 20:51.4.
Ashlyn Maska, Sydney Larson and Halle Tonn came in just seconds apart placing seventh, eighth and ninth with times of 22:24.4, 22:26.8 and 22:28. Brooklyn Talmage rounded out the scoring members of the team. She placed 11th with a time of 22:29.8.
In Cumberland, the Bulldogs faced bigger schools and a more challenging race course. The girls placed fourth out of seven teams with a score of 102. They beat St. Croix Falls, Barron and Northwestern. Bloomer won the meet with 32 points, Amery took second with 49 and Cameron was third with 73.
As usual, Blake Jeske was the girls’ top finisher, placing 14th out of 78 runners with a time of 23:08.6. Ciara Hartman of Bloomer won the race with an impressive time of 18:13.1.
Halle Tonn, Brooklyn Talmage and Ashlyn Maska took 22nd, 23rd and 24th with times of 23:43.9, 23:56.2 and 23:57.4. Sydney Larson also scored points placing 30th with a time of 24:28.
Varsity Boys
In Spring Valley the varsity boys team scored 119 points which earned them fifth place out of six teams. Glenwood City won the meet with a score of 40. Prescott was second with 46, Durand-Arkansaw was third with 61 and Elk Mound was fourth with 111.
Michael Montgomery and Isaac Williams were the top finishers for the Bulldogs. Montgomery placed 15th out of 67 runners with a time of 19:35.3 and Williams came in 16th with a time of 19:41. Zayne Richardson of Durand-Arkansaw won with a time of 17:04.7.

Forest Bettendorf was the third runner coming in 23rd with a time of 20:23.9. Riley Naughton and Dominic Anderson also scored points placing 35th and 54th with times of 21:19.1 and 23:10.9.
In Cumberland, Boyceville competed against ten teams and placed ninth with 194 points. Northwestern won the meet with a score of 66.
Michael Montgomery and Isaac Williams were again the top finishers for the team. Montgomery placed 38th out of 98 runners with a time of 21:03 and Williams came in 41st with a time of 21:12.3. Seth Rogge of Bloomer won with a time of 16:39.6.
Forest Bettendorf was once again the third runner coming in just a few seconds behind Williams. Bettendorf placed 42nd with a time of 21:19.4. Nicholas Keeley and Riley Naughton also scored points coming in 43rd and 47th with times of 21:30.2 and 22:02.8.
Middle School
The middle school teams also competed at both meets. In Cumberland, the girls placed second and the boys placed fourth out of ten teams.
The first Boyceville middle school girl over the finish line at Cumberland was Brielle Jeske who placed second out of 134 runners. Other top finishers were: Katie Maska who placed 14th, Raven Naughton who placed 18th, Kendall Pomasl who placed 33rd and Hannah Bensend who placed 41st.
Top Boyceville runners in the boys’ middle school 3k race in Cumberland were Clayton Score who placed 11th, Clyde Score who placed 23rd, Zac Tonn who placed 24th, Easton Retz who placed 37th and Easton Lange who placed 42nd out of 126 runners.
In Spring Valley, the boys placed second out of six teams and the girls placed third out of eight teams.
Brielle Jeske was once again the top Boyceville girls’ middle school racer. She placed third out of 68 runners. Katie Maska was eighth, Raven Naughton was 15th, Kendall Pomasl was 29th and Gracie Harvey was 33rd.
Top Boyceville runners in the boys’ middle school 3k race in Spring Valley were Clyde Score who placed fifth, Zac Tonn who placed eighth, Easton Retz who placed 14th, Easton Lange who placed 22nd and Logan Monfort who placed 24th out of 65 runners.
