SOMERSET — Several cross country runners from Colfax traveled to Somerset Sept. 10 to compete in the Somerset Invitational. Neither the boys or girls had enough runners for a team with the boys having just two competing and the girls four.
Charlie Charbonneau placed 14th in a field of 83 competitors in a time of 19:46 while Isaiah Entzminger was 17th at 19:52. Newcomer Levi Elwood ran as a workout and did not record a time. Seth Rogge of Bloomer won the race in 16:48.
Kaysen Goodell was the first Lady Viking to cross the finish line at 21:52 for fifth place. Hannah Peterson claimed 20th place in 24:11, Lauren Becker finished in 34th place in 26:39 and Veronika Leavens was 36th in 27:04. There were 62 girls in the race. Ciara Hartman of Bloomer was first with a time of 18:01 while her triplet sisters Briella was second and Aliya was fourth.
“We took another step in the right direction,” coach Joe Doucette commented. “It was a tough course and the girls hung in there very well. We have great kids again and will work hard to be at our best late in the year,” he concluded.
