ST. CROIX FALLS — The Colfax girls’ and boys’ cross country runners got their 2024 season underway last Thursday, August 29 when they competed in the St. Croix Falls Invitational.
Although neither the girls nor boys had enough runners to compete for a team score, they finished well in the individual standings.
Three senior girls participated in the event for Colfax with Kaysen Goodell leading the way as she copped a second-place finish in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 21:53.0. 2023 state medalist, Inez Schmidt, a Cameron sophomore, recorded a time of 21:33.6 to win the race.
“Kaysen looked very strong,” said Joe Doucette, Colfax head coach.
Hannah Peterson ran a 24:19.3 to finish 14th while classmate Lauren Becker was 24th in 26:20.3.
“Hannah Peterson also medaled in 14th and Lauren Becker looked good also,” added Doucette.
Goodell and Peterson are both returning first-team all-conference runners.
Doucette also noted that freshman Veronika Leavens worked out for two miles but did not finish with a time.
The Colfax boys had just two runners in the meet but both finished in the top ten.
Junior Charlie Charbonneau came in eighth with a time of 19:57.0 while freshman teammate Isaiah Entzminger took ninth in 20:22.1.
“The boys only had two run but both looked great! Charbonneau is a returning all-conference selection and a hard worker. Entzminger has great natural ability if he stays with it he could be awesome,” concluded Doucette.
The Vikings cross country runners next meet is September 12 in Somerset.
