BOYCEVILLE — Led by double winner Jeanette Hydukovich and the 4×800 meter relay team, the Viking girls placed fourth in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference track and field meet held in Boyceville May 14 while the boys finished seventh. Under ideal weather conditions, Mondovi repeated as the conference champions for the girls as did Elk Mound who captured the boys’ championship for a second consecutive year.
Colfax hosted the WIAA Division 3 regional competition Monday with the top four finishers in each event advancing to the sectional meet at Cameron High School this Thursday, May 23. The State Championships will be held May 31 and June 1 in La Crosse.
Girls
Senior Jeanette Hydukovich continued to overpower her opponents, winning the discus throw with a toss of 121’ 11” and the shot put, heaving the iron ball 38’ 3.25”. Her younger sister Clara Hydukovich was third in the discus (106’ 9”) and fellow senior Kennedy Shane placed fourth (101’ 7”). Shane took eighth in the shot put (30’ 2.5”) while Clara Hydukovich was ninth (28’ 4.75”).
The 4×800 relay team consisting of Hannah Peterson, Lauren Becker, Leila Hurlburt and Kaysen Goodell claimed a first with a time of 11:03.83 while Goodell raced her way to a second place in both the 800 and 1,600m races. Goodell ran a 2:33.11 time in the 800, just behind Courtney Stadter of Mondovi (2:26.72), and in the 1,600 was clocked at 5:43.54 behind Stadter again (5:18.86). Peterson placed fourth in the 400 m run (1:05.17) while teammate Becker was 10th (1:13.45) and Peterson added a fifth place in the 800m run (2:40.75).
Hurlburt was ninth in the 200m dash (30.64) and Becker was 11th in the same race (30.84) with Lydia Levra of Elk Mound winning it all (27.02). Hurlburt was 16th in the long jump (12’ 7.5”) while Stella Darmstadt was 19th (7’ 4.5”) as Addison Auth of Durand took first (16’ 6.5”). Becker was 11th in the pole vault (6’ 6”) as Glenwood City’s Haylie Hannah won it all again (10’).
Each event winner earned first team, all-conference honors, runners-up were awarded second team, all-conference designation and the third-place finishers received honorable mention.

Boys
Theo Hovde claimed a third place in the 800m run (2:09.87) while Charlie Charbonneau was just behind him for fourth (2:13.52). Ilan Anderson of Glenwood City took the race (2:06.20).The 4x400m relay placed third with Logan Swartz, Isaiah Sanders, Hovde and Charbonneau, (3:46.67) as the Hilltoppers took the top spot (3:35.85). Hovde added a fourth in the 400m run (52.90), Swartz followed with a seventh place (57.87) and Elijah Obermueller was 12th (1:14.02) with Brady Thompson stealing the race (50.93).
Swartz added a seventh in the 200m dash (24.90), Liam Schotter was 11th (26.59) and Hayden Sarauer came in for 13th (27.19). Elk Mound’s Keinin Miller won the race (22.83). Charbonneau added a sixth place in the 1,600m run (4:58.77) as Landon Clark of Mondovi won it (4:49.01) and the 4×200 relay team placed seventh (1:49.49) with Schotter, Sanders, Austin Johnson and Sarauer. Glenwood City won again (1:37.43).
In the field events, Swartz was fifth in the long jump (18’ 9.5”) and Hovde was close behind in sixth (18’ 7”) as last year’s state runner-up Caden Wold of Boyceville won it all (21’ 6”). John Riebe was eighth in the discus (104’ 8”), Nate Edwards was close behind in ninth (103’ 10”) and James Wahl finished 17th (82’ 11”) with Durand’s Gavin Jahnke heaving the disc for the win (147’ 2”). Wahl was 11th in the shot put (36’ 9.25”), Eli Ralph finished in 14th (34’ 2.5”) and Riebe was 21st (30’ 9.5”) as Landon KasaKaitas took it all (46’ 6.25”).
