BOYCEVILLE — After losing four of its previous five games, the Boyceville softball team was in much need of a victory especially with the playoffs set to begin.
The Bulldogs did just that as they capped their conference schedule and the regular season with a hard-earned 4-1 win at home against the Wolves of Elmwood-Plum City on Monday, May 13.
Following a scoreless first inning, Boyceville scored a run in the bottom of the second. In the third, the Bulldogs tacked on three more scores to push its advantage to 4-0.
Elmwood-Plum City, who had just one conference victory coming into the game and two overall, got on the scoreboard with a single run in the top of the fourth.
As it turned out, that was all the scoring in the game as Boyceville held on for the three-run win.
The Bulldogs finished with just five hits in the game, two of which belonged to Lillian Lain. Hannah Dunn, Zoey Hellendrung and Kaitlyn Mittlestadt each finished with a base hit.
Freshman Aubrey Malean went the full seven innings in the throwing circle to grab the win, She scattered four Wolves hits and struck out nine batters while giving up just one free base pass.
With that win, Boyceville finished 10-4 in the Dunn-St. Croix, good for a second-place tie with Elk Mound. Overall, the Bulldogs head into the playoffs with a 13-6 mark.
Boyceville, seeded fourth, hosted Cadott, the fifth seed, in a Division 4 regional semifinal yesterday (Tuesday, May 21). The winner will face the winner of Fall Creek (#1) and Glenwood City (#8) in Thursday’s regional title game.
