HILSON-OLSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS — Two students received $6,000 per year scholarships, renewable for four years, and one student received a $2,000 per year renewable scholarship from the Hilson-Olson Memorial at the May 1 scholarship awards at Colfax High School. COLFAX – At the time of the senior scholarship awards ceremony at Colfax High School on May 1, members of the Class of 2024 had already received more than $150,000 in scholarships, according to John Dachel, Colfax High School principal.
Here are the awards presented to Colfax High School seniors:
• All State Academic Excellence ($2,250 per year renewable for four years) – Mason Yarrington, who is planning to attend UW-La Crosse for sports management.
• Wisconsin Technical Excellence ($2,250 per year renewable for three years) – Christian Ebert, who will be pursuing a programming technology degree.
• Marlin Raveling Scholarship ($200 each) – given in memory of the former Colfax Messenger news editor to students who represent the school and the community well both on and off the athletic field – McKenna Shipman and Mason Yarrington.

• Norman Larson Memorial Scholarship ($500) – Larson graduated from Colfax High School in 1935 and had a career in education; scholarships are given in memory of his wife, June) – Jaycey Bowe, who plans to attend UW-LaCrosse to major in healthcare business.
• UW-La Crosse Presidential Awards (no amount announced) – Jaycey Bowe and Mason Yarrington.
• Menomonie Chamber of Commerce Scholarship ($1,000) – Jada Riley, who plans to go to Chippewa Valley Technical College for a degree in nursing.
• Quarter Queens ($500) – Josie Seehaver, who plans to attend CVTC for a health-related program.
• Synergy Cooperative ($500) – Connor Albricht, who plans to attend UW-River Falls for agricultural engineering.
• Ann Marie Foundation Award ($2,000) – the philanthropic organization of Philips Plastics/Phillips Medicize – Mason Yarrington.
• Commercial Testing Lab ($250) – student attending a four-year college with an interest in biology or chemistry – Jeanette Hydukovich, who plans to attend Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, with a major in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology.
• CTL Foods, Inc. ($250) – Matthew Dachel, who plans to go to a technical school for welding.

• Beyrer Farms and Colfax Sportsmen’s Club ($500) – Kennedy Shane, who plans to attend UW-River Falls for conservation and environmental planning.
• Colfax Youth Basketball ($200 each and a certificate) – students have been part of the basketball program since third grade – Jada Anderson, Jayce Bowe, Jeanette Hydukovich, Meadow Keltner, McKenna Shipman.
• Dunn-St. Croix Scholar Athlete – Mason Yarrington and Jeanette Hydukovich.
• WIAA Scholar Athlete – Nominees were Mason Yarrington and Jeanette Hydukovich.
• Most Coachable Award (voted on by the coaches) – Mason Yarrington.
• Most Coachable Award (voted on by the coaches)— McKenna Shipman.
• Class of 2024 Top Athlete (has earned six varsity letters in two different sports and has had no athletic code violations; award voted on by the letter winners) – Mason Yarrington and McKenna Shipman.
• American Red Cross Scholarship ($250) – CHS has had two blood drives that collected over 50 units of blood, and the scholarship is awarded to a member of the student council for volunteering and leadership during blood drives – Alexis Schindler, who will be attending Chippewa Valley Technical College for childcare services.

• Hilson-Olson Memorial Scholarships ($6000 per year each, renewable for four years) – Harold and Dorothy Olson Hilson graduated from CHS, Harold in 1932 and Dorothy in 1941. The couple did not attend college and had no children, but they wanted to improve the lives of CHS graduates – Eli Ralph, who plans to attend UW-Stout for a degree in technology education, and Kennedy Shane. Jada Riley also received a $2,000 renewable scholarship.
• Derek Horn Memorial ($1,000) – Derek graduated from CHS in 1990. He attended UW-La Crosse in athletic training and eventually became a physical therapist – awarded to Meadow Keltner.
• American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship ($500 each) – Amy Denzel, who plans to pursue a degree in medical tomography (CT scans), and Jada Riley, who has worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant from the time she was able to be certified and plans to pursue a degree in nursing.
• Norman D. Knutson Memorial Scholarship ($1,500) – Norman graduated from CHS in 1952 and was one of the first students to graduate from the Eau Claire Institute of Technology – Gabriel Loew, who plans to attend CVTC for motorcycle, marine and outdoor power products technician.
• WESTconsin Credit Union Scholarship ($1,000) – Marek Neuville, who plans to attend the University of Minnesota Twin Cities for history.
• Colfax SnoDrifters (no amount announced) – Mason Yarrington and Eli Ralph.
• Dairy State Bank Scholarship ($500) – Christian Ebert.
• Colfax Kiwanis ($500 each) – Jacey Bowe, Marek Neuville and Amelia Schmitt.
• Cammie B. Johnson Scholarship (no amount announced) – McKenna Shipman, who is certified as a CNA and plans to become a nurse in obstetrics-gynecology or a neonatal nurse.
• Jeremy Wolfe Memorial Scholarship (no amount announced) – Kennedy Shane.
• Scot Miller Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) – Jeanette Hydukovich.
• Menomonie Masonic Lodge Scholarship ($500 each) – Meadow Keltner and Alexis Schindler.
• Donald and Leona Ubbelohde Education Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) – Eli Ralph.
• Dunn Energy Cooperative Scholarship ($1,000) – Christian Ebert and Jacey Bowe.
• Mayo Health System Scholarship ($1,000) – awarded to someone going into the healthcare field – Jacey Bowe.
• Colfax Woman’s Club Scholarship ($750) – Amelia Schmitt for her volunteer efforts in the community that have gone “above and beyond.”
• Menomonie Lions Club Scholarship ($1,000 each) – Jeanette Hydukovich and Alexis Schindler.
• Kyle’s Market Investment in Education Scholarship ($500 each) – Josephine (Joey) Paulus and Matthew Dachel.
• Foremost Farms Scholarship ($3,000) – Connor Albricht.
• Tainter Trail Tamers Scholarship ($1,000) – Eli Ralph.
• Russell-Toycen American Legion Post 131 ($250 each) – to students with a parent who served in the military – Jacey Bowe and Jada Anderson.
