Two former athletes from Colfax high school, George Scharlau a 2019 grad and Kameri Meredith a 2020 grad, both concluded their college basketball careers this past winter.
Scharlau began playing for Division 2 Concordia University of St. Paul and played in all 25 games as a freshman and all 26 as a sophomore. After transferring to UW-Stout for his final two seasons, he finished off his senior year by starting in all 27 games for the Blue Devils. He shot 47 percent from the field and made 55 three point shots. He knocked down 36 of 51 free throws for 70 percent and had a total of 293 points which was third on the team. He led Stout in rebounds with 196 and was also first in steals with 37. He also contributed with 52 assists which was third for the team and was also third in blocked shots with 24. His career high game for the Blue Devils was 27 points his junior year against UW-Eau Claire.
Meredith played three seasons for the UW-River Falls Falcons and as a senior, started nine of their 25 games. She shot 43 percent from the floor and made 28 of 77 three point shots for 38 percent. She was pretty proficient at the free throw line, connecting on 35 of 43 attempts for 81 percent and was second in scoring for the team with 199 points. She was third for the Falcons in rebounds with 114 and led the team in steals, swiping the ball 31 times.Her high game was 19 points against UW-Oshkosh.
Her three-year totals include playing in 70 games while starting 24 of them. She knocked down 63 of 161 three pointers for 39 percent, made 69 of 91 free throw attempts for 75 percent, pulled down 324 rebounds, collected 49 assists and 74 steals. She finished with 416 points for her career.
