COLFAX — Scoring 65 points, the Elk Mound boys’ track and field team were first-place finishers at the Colfax Invite which took place on Thursday, April 18. The Vikings and Mounders girls’ teams tied for third with a score of 31 while the Colfax boys took seventh with 15 points.
Amid gail force winds that blew one team’s tent over and freezing temperatures, Bloomer won the girls’ competition with 81 points. Ten teams competed at the invite including McDonell Central, Prairie Farm, Spring Valley, Drummond, Boyceville, Washburn and Elmwood-Plum City in addition to Colfax, Elk Mound and Bloomer.
Elk Mound
EMHS junior Landon Kasakaitas brought in a pair of firsts in the shot put and discus competitions throwing 45 feet 4.5 inches and 130 feet 7 inches. The team’s 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams also won first place.
In the 4×100 relay Riley Krall, Jay Meyer, Keinin Miller and Carson Streifel had a time of 46.63 finishing almost a full five seconds in front of the second place finishers. The same team ran the 4×200 relay in 1:38.41 and also finished well ahead of the second place finishers.

Senior Grant Mueller took home a trio of second places in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.63 seconds, in long jump with 20’ 11.75” and in triple jump with 40’ 3.75”. Fellow senior Tyler Gagner took second in the 400 meter run with a time of 55.97 seconds. He also took third in the 100 meter dash at 11.71 seconds.
Sophomore Rownan Soul-Stewart earned two third places. One in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 18.24 seconds and another in triple jump with a leap of 36 feet 10 inches. He also placed fourth in discus with a throw of 107 feet 3 inches.
Other fourth place finishers on the EMHS boys’ team included: Jay Meyer in the 100 meter dash, Brooks Burcaw in the 110 meter hurdles and in pole vault and Dalton Banaszak in high jump.
In the girls’ competition, Mounders’ senior Lydia Levra was the only first-place finisher. She ran the 200 meter dash in 27.14 seconds.
Coming in second were sophomores Taylor Frinack and Allie Robel. Taylor in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.48 seconds and Robel in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 49.75 seconds and in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet 8 inches.

Maddie Gehweiler, Claire Steinhorst, Katie Rosenthal and Lauren Gabert had a time of 58.91 seconds. The 4×200 relay had a time of 1 minute 53.72 seconds. Team members were Taylor Frinack, Allie Robel, Lydia Levra, Savannah Nechanicky.
Senior Carly Mohr placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.97 seconds and fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 57.15 seconds. Placing fourth was senior Lydia Levra in long jump with a jump of 15 feet 4.5 inches.

Colfax
Colfax senior Jeanette Hydukovich was the sole first-place finisher on her team. She won the discus event with a throw of 129 feet 8 inches. She also placed second in shot put at 34 feet 11.5 inches.
Also coming in second was junior Kaysen Goodell in the 1,600m run with a time of 5 minutes 50 seconds. She also placed third in the 800m run with a time of 2 minutes and 41.68 seconds. The 4×400 relay team consisting of Lauren Becker, Kaysen Goodell, Leila Hurlburt and Hannah Peterson earned another second place with a time of 4 minutes 51.55 seconds.
More points were scored when junior Hannah Peterson tookthird in the 400 meter run with a time of 1 minute 7.71 seconds. Another third-place finisher was senior Kennedy Shane with a 30 foot 4.5 inch throw in shot put. Sophomore Clara Hydukovich placed fourth in discus with a toss of 98 feet 11 inches.
In the boys competition, the top point getters included freshman James Wahl who took second in shot put with a throw of 36 feet 4.25 inches and sophomore Charlie Charbonneau who earned fourth place in the 400 meter run with a time of 58.76 seconds.
Junior Theo Hovde earned the most points for the team taking third place in the 400 meter and in long jump and a fourth place in the 800m run. In the 400m, Hovde ran the race in 56.11 seconds and in the 800 his time was 2 minutes 16.1 seconds. In the long jump he leaped 19 feet 5 inches.
