Bloomer/Colfax wrestlers open Cloverbelt action, compete in New Richmond Invite

With the calendar turning to January 2024, the Bloomer/Colfax wrestling team opened Cloverbelt action last Thursday with a quadrangular dual meet at Stanley-Boyd High School where the squad grappled with the host Orioles along with Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal and newly minted cooperative Chippewa Falls McDonell/Elk Mound.
The Raptors lost their duals with Stanley-Boyd and Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal but no score, however, was reported for its head-to-head battle with McDonell/Elk Mound,
Just two days later, the Raptor boys competed in the New Richmond Invitational while Kendra Hamman traveled to the Cadott Invitational where she finished first in the 185-pound weight class.
Colfax High School is set to host its only wrestling meet of the season this Thursday, a Cloverbelt triangular against Abbotsford/Colby and Osseo-Fairchild/Augusta/Fall Creek. The Raptors then travel to Ladysmith for an invitational on Saturday.
Cloverbelt Quad at Stanley-Boyd
Bloomer/Colfax was soundly beaten by Stanley-Boyd and Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal when it opened the Cloverbelt Conference dual season with a round-robin, quadrangular meet hosted by Stanley-Boyd Thursday, January 4.
The Raptors also competed against Chippewa Falls McDonell/Elk Mound, but no score for the round one match-up was available at Monday’s press time.
In the final two rounds, Bloomer/Colfax lost 54-17 to host Stanley-Boyd and 65-16 to Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal. The Raptors won just three matches in each of those duals.
Colfax senior Ayden Anderson split his 126-pound matches in those duals, losing by pin to the Orioles’ Darrin Dorn and receiving a forfeit versus N/G/L.
New Richmond Invite
The Raptor boys competed in the New Richmond Invitational Saturday, January 6 where they finished 13th out of 15 schools in the individual tournament after registering a team score of 101.5 points.
Just seven Raptor wrestlers made the trip to New Richmond High School but all placed.
Drew Ryder (113) and Zeke Anderson (120) posted the highest finishes for the squad as they each placed fourth in the respective weight classes. James McElroy finished fifth at 150 pounds, Ayden Anderson and Jacob LaGesse placed ninth at 126 and 132 pounds, respectively, Dyllon Zwiefelhofer was 11th at 157 and Miles Lueck took 12th at 150.
Centennial High School from Minnesota won the team title with 310 points while Big Rivers Conference members River Falls (301), Eau Claire North (263.5) and New Richmond (259) finished second through fourth. Osceola, from the Middle Border Conference, took fifth with a 255.
Cadott Invite
While her male counterparts where in New Richmond, Bloomer senior Kendra Hamman was in Cadott competing for a title in the 185-pound weight class. Hamman won the gold after finishing 3-0 which included a pair of pins. Following an opening-round bye, Hamman stuck Keara Butterfield of Cameron just one minute into their semifinal match and then polished off Menasha’s Lauryn Rubbert at the 3:21 mark of the championship match.
