From “Winding Up the Yarn” — A very special Christmas present
COLFAX — The following was published in Helen Reed’s column, “Winding Up the Yarn,” in the Colfax Messenger on January 1, 1959:
A very special Christmas present arrived at the home of Mrs. Ethel Fjelsted and family just a week before Christmas.
The arrival was Blacky, a black Angora cat who had disappeared from the Fjelsted home the night of the tornado and was presumed a casualty of the storm, since no one had seen or heard of him since that time.
Blacky was a mighty happy cat to be back home again, and he greeted every member of the family enthusiastically, particularly Tuffy, the dog, who was always his special buddy before his disappearance.
Blacky was thin and appeared to have had a little care, but it’s a good guess that the Fjelsteds and Tuffy will pamper him more than ever to make up for lost time.
[Ethel Fjelsted lost her husband, Spencer, in the June 4, 1958, tornado in Colfax. Ethel (Fjelsted) Nelson passed away December 12, 2023.]
