Following the Christmas break, the Raptors were back in action at the annual Northern Badger Wrestling Classic which was held Thursday and Friday, December 28 and 29 at River Falls High School. Only one of team’s five male competitors, Drew Ryder, qualified for the second day of competition along with its lone female wrestler, Kendra Hamman.
Bloomer/Colfax begins Cloverbelt competition this Thursday, January 4 at Stanley-Boyd.
Bloomer/Colfax Duals
Bloomer/Colfax split its four matchups in a home dual-style tournament held December 22 at Bloomer High School.
The Raptors defeated Bruce and Thorp/Owen-Withee by respective scores of 36-11 and 48-6 for their two victories. The team lost to eventual tournament winner Boyceville 60-18 and Arcadia, who placed second, 63-16.
By splitting its four duals, Bloomer/Colfax finished third in the five-school, round-robin tournament.
Boyceville won all four of its duals to capture first, Arcadia went 3-1. Thorp/Owen-Withee finished 1-3 to take fourth and Bruce finished 0-4 to place fifth.

Drew Ryder (113), Zeke Anderson (120) and James McElroy (150) all finished 4-0 in their matches for the Raptors while Kolten Burgess (190) was 3-1.
Northern Badger Classic
Drew Ryder and Kendra Hamman were the only Bloomer/Colfax wrestlers to advance to the second day of competition at the 2023 Northern Badger Wrestling Classic held at River Falls High School on December 28 and 29.
Ryder opened the tournament with a bye and a 3-2 decision over Cumberland’s Caleb Hile but fell 5-1 to Garrett DeLong of St. Croix Central in a quarterfinal’s match at 113 pounds. In the second day of competition, Ryder won his first two matches but lost his final two bouts including a 4-2 loss to DeLong in the third-place match and finished fourth.
Kendra Hamman received a pair of opening-day byes to qualify for the championship match in the girls’ 195-pound weight bracket. Unfortunately, Hamman was pinned 19 seconds into the gold-medal match by Cameron’s Kierra Schuebel.
Raptor wrestlers Charlie Hebert (120), Jacob LeGesse (132), James McElroy (150) and Kolten Burgess (190) all suffered a pair of first-day losses and were eliminated from competition.
Colfax wrestler Ayden Anderson did not compete.
The Bloomer/Colfax boys finished in a tie for 39th place out of 46 teams with a score of 34 points. The Raptors were last (16th place) in the Division 1 (large school) standings. By virtue of Hamman’s second-place finish, the Bloomer/Colfax girls team finished the tourney in a tie for sixth place in Division 2 with Prescott after both squads tallied 12 points.
