Optimists name December Youth of the Month

Honoring outstanding seniors from Dunn County’s high schools has been a tradition of the Menomonie Optimist Club for over 30 years.  For the month of December, Optimists honored Mason Yarrington of Colfax High School as the December Youth of the Month.

Mason Yarrington is a senior at Colfax High School, where he has excelled academically with a 4.0 grade point average.  In addition, he has already taken eight college-level courses and will complete two more by graduation.  Mason is a member of the National Honor Society, and active in other community service, including volunteering at basketball camps, helping run concession stands, and working to improve area trails.  He has been a member of the Colfax basketball and baseball teams, assisted with the football team, and was named all-conference in baseball.  Mason plans to attend either UW-LaCrosse, the University of Michigan, or Marquette University to major in Sports Management and Statistics.  Mason is the son of Ryan and Niki Yarrington.

Menomonie Optimist projects also include work involving school students at Hoffman Hills for the past 40 years, the Dictionary Project which presents a dictionary to every third grader in Dunn County, and hosting the Menomin Meander, a family-friendly bicycle ride around Menomonie’s Lake Menomin Loop each August.
