GLENWOOD CITY—About a dozen people, mostly city residents faced the city council over the agreement with Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) about renting the Community Center for senior meals. The group had been paying $250 per month for the use of the center to offer senior meals.
However, citing cleaning cost, the council raised the rent to $400 per month. The council heard that the group severed some 7,320 meals during the year at the center. They also learned that the $250 dollar figure was the entire amount the group had to spend on rent. They also learned that of the eight other senior meal programs in the county, only Glenwood City charges rent.
Council member Kletscher noted that he did not want to take away a place for the seniors to eat, but we have “Dunn County people coming here”, he noted.
Mayor Rob Uhruh noted that cleaning of the building has been a hot topic at city meetings. So, after a long discussion, the council agreed to work with the group about cleaning and reduced the rent back to $250 for three-month period.
The mayor touched on a couple of items including snow removal noting that because of no snow so far this year, “The benefit of no snow is that we may not have to look for funds to pay for snow removal,” he said.
Acting on a note from Kletscher, about the Oak and First Street intersection traffic, he had the state take a look at it and proposed a four-way stop. At present traffic on highways 170 and 128 are required to stop for the Oak Street traffic. The council approved getting some more information from the state before taking action.
During his report to the Council, Police Chief Joe Klatt reported that former Police Chief Robert Darwin was given a plaque thanking him for his 21-years of service to the community.
