COLFAX — The Colfax volleyball team finished off their regular season with a bang, taking a pair of Dunn-St. Croix Conference wins on their home court last week.
Starting on Tuesday, October 10, the Vikings swept the Mondovi Buffaloes 25-23, 25-15 and 25-15. Two days later, they had to work a lot harder against the Durand Panthers, taking the first set 25-15, dropping the second set 25-23 then narrowly winning the final two sets 25-23 and 26-24.
The wins left the Vikings with a 17-16 overall record and 5-2 in conference play, tying them with Elk Mound for second place. Spring Valley was the conference champion with a 7-0 record.
Colfax began WIAA regional play as a number eight seed in the Division 3 sectional and hosted those same Mondovi Buffaloes, a number nine seed, Tuesday night, October 17. The winner of that match will have a tall task as they will travel to Chippewa Falls to face McDonell Central who happen to be the defending Division 4 state champions.
Mondovi
The Vikings pounded out 30 kills for points in the short match with Jeanette Hydukovich leading the way with nine. Lydia Polkoski added five, while McKenna Shipman, Aubrey Rihn and Jada Anderson all slammed four. Anderson added a team leading 26 digs with four ace serves and three blocks, Hydukovich zipped three ace serves over the net and blocked three shots and Shipman led in assists with 13. Jordyn Bowe set her teammates up ten times and Ava Sedivy and Brynn Sikora both picked up seven digs.
Durand-Arkansaw
In the four set match against the Panthers, the Vikings slammed 45 kill shots with Anderson spiking 13, Hydukovich 12 and Sikora 10. Hydukovich saved points with 21 digs and put up a wall at the net with seven blocks, Anderson picked up 19 digs with three blocks, and Sikora’s serves were pretty much unreturnable as she sent nine aces over the net.
In addition, Bowe led in assists with 20 and came up with 13 digs, Shipman totaled 17 assists with 12 digs and Polkoski blocked three shots and smacked a pair of kills.
