DURAND — They may have not had enough runners to have a team score this season but it was certainly a quality not quantity year for the Colfax cross country athletes.
Two of the three Viking girls finished in the top seven to claim first team Dunn St. Croix all-conference honors while one of the two boys competing earned a second team all-conference spot by finishing in the 8-14 spot.
The conference meet was held in Durand Thursday, October 12 under cloudy skies with the temperature in the mid-50s.
Junior Kaysen Goodell became a three-time all-conference runner, placing second on the 5,000 meter course in 20:53, finishing behind senior Courtney Stadter of Mondovi who set a course record in 19:45. Hannah Peterson ran her best race of the year, according to Colfax coach Joe Doucette, claiming fourth place in 21:58 and Lauren Becker struggled a bit but persevered for a 27th place finish in 26:11.
There were 37 total competitors in the girls’ competition and just four schools had complete teams with Boyceville winning the conference title, its first since 2005.
Charlie Charbonneau reached his early season goal of making all-conference by placing 13th for the Viking boys, finishing ahead of several runners who had beaten him earlier in the season. Charbonneau came in at 18:55 while Logan Swartz was 32nd at 21:00.
With 43 total runners for the boys, the race was won by Landon Clark of Mondovi in 17:11. There were six schools with full teams and Glenwood City took the top spot.
