It may have been the excitement of Homecoming week or wanting to get the bitter taste of the loss to Elk Mound out of their mouths the previous week, but whatever the reason was, the Colfax volleyball team earned a pair of three set sweeps over two Dunn-St. Croix conference opponents last week.
The Vikings hosted Elmwood-Plum City on Tuesday, Oct. 3 on “Dig Pink” night, and although it took some extra work, the Vikings won the first set 30-28. They picked up the second set 25-16 and finished off the Wolves with a 25-14 third set win.
Colfax collected a total of 38 kills in the match. Three seniors made the most of their final Homecoming including Jeanette Hydukovich with nine kills, three ace serves and 10 digs, Jada Anderson slammed nine kills with four aces and 10 digs and McKenna Shipman smacked six kills, led the team in assists with 15 and picked up seven digs. Brynn Sikora added six kills and Aubrey Rihn tacked on three more. Jordyn Bowe set up her teammates 14 times while defensively, Ava Sedivy, Lydia Polkoski and Emma Medin all picked up five digs.
The momentum carried over to the contest at Glenwood City two days later with the Vikings slamming 35 kills in the 25-9. 25-16, 25-11 win. Hydukovich led the Vikings in kills with eight, in ace serves with four and in blocks with three and also picked up 14 digs. Polkoski slammed seven kills as did Shipman, who also led the team in assists with 18. Sikora added six kills while Anderson tacked on five kills with a team leading 16 digs and Bowe added 10 assists.
Colfax also played in the Somerset Invitational on Saturday. The only reported score from the event, however, was the Vikings second win over Glenwood City in two days by the scores of 25-19 and 25-21.

Colfax is 3-2 in conference play with two matches left in the season. The Vikings hosted Mondovi last night and Durand-Arkansaw on Thursday.
They will then host Mondovi again, this time in the opening round of WIAA Division 3 regional play next Tuesday, October 17. The Vikings are the #8 seed and the Buffaloes the #9 seed. The winner will play at top-seeded Chippewa Falls McDonell on Thursday, October 19 in a regional semifinal match.
