SPRING VALLEY — Without enough runners for either the girls or boys to post a team score, five Colfax individuals competed at the Spring Valley Invite held September 26. The highlight for the Viking girls was junior Kaysen Goodell winning the race in a time of 21:48 which was seven seconds faster than the runner up. Hannah Peterson was eighth for the Vikings, finishing in 23:18 while Lauren Becker was 35th, clocking in at 25:39. There were 61 individuals in the race and the team champion was Boyceville.
Charlie Charbonneau came back from an illness and was probably not 100 percent but managed to finish 16th in a field of 82 runners in the boy’s division. Charbonneau’s time was 20:08 while teammate Logan Swartz placed 38th in 22:05. Clayton Hoffman of Glenwood City won the race in 17:57 to lead the Hilltoppers to the team championship.
Eighth grader Veronika Leavens placed sixth of 53 competitors for Colfax in the middle school division.
“Kaysen is tough both physically and mentally,” coach Joe Doucette said. “It was great to see her win. Hannah went out a touch hard but hung in there as well.Logan was solid and we think his next three races will be his best,” he added.
Colfax will run on Saturday, October 7 in an invitational at South Middle School in Eau Claire
