Fatal crash near Elk Mound

A two vehicle crash occurred on WIS State Highway 29 at mile marker 63 west bound in Dunn County near Elk Mound at 1:37 a.m. on Saturday, September 23.

The crash involved one fatality and one injury.

The details of the crash are as follows:

The WI State Patrol and deputies from the Dunn County Sheriffs Office responded to a semi versus car crash on STH 29 near 970th Street. Preliminary information was believed that a 2004 Saturn Ion was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes when it struck a westbound semi unit.

The 17-year-old, female from Fairchild, WI was the operator and lone occupant, of the Saturn was deceased at the scene. The semi traveled through the median, across the eastbound lanes and into the south ditch where it jackknifed and came to rest. The operator of the semi unit, 35-year-old, Bishar Sadaq Osman, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Assisting agencies included the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office, Colfax EMS, Elk Mound Fire, Central First Responders, Menomonie Fire, Wheaton Fire, Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, and Dunn County Highway Department.

The crash remains under investigation by the WI State Patrol at this time.
