Elevator project thrift sale Thursday-Saturday

By LeAnn R. Ralph

COLFAX — It’s that time once again.

The Colfax Elevator Commission’s thrift sale at the Colfax Fairgrounds on East Railroad Avenue in Colfax is scheduled for this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

In years past, the thrift sale has been well supported by the community both for donations and for  the sale of items.

You just never know what you might find, too, from books to kitchen utensils, to pots, pans and dishes, furniture, holiday decorations, candle holders, home decor, and children’s and men’s and women’s clothing and shoes.

“This year, we could really use some volunteers to help out,” said Mark Johnson, a member of the elevator commission.

Donation drop-offs and set-up for the thrift sale are scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday, August 8 and 9, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

If you have an hour or two to spare, the elevator commission would greatly appreciate the help, Johnson said.

Thrift sale hours are Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

If anyone can spare some time to help with the sale itself, that also would be greatly appreciated, Johnson said.

Free-will donations are accepted for thrift sale items, and clothing sells for $1 per bag.

Once again, food and refreshments will be available at the fairgrounds.

Johnson says that volunteers also are needed for the food stand. The menu will include sloppy joes, potato salad and pie.

Money raised from the thrift sale and the food stand will be put toward the Colfax Municipal Building elevator project.

If you would be willing to volunteer an hour or two of your time, you can can contact Johnson at Cafe II Coffee Shop & Bakery at 715-704-6086, or contact Lisa Bragg-Hurlburt at the Colfax Public Library at 715-962-4334, Wednesday afternoon or on Thursday before 4 p.m.

Or you can just show up at the fairgrounds at any time during donation drop-offs or during the thrift sale.

Whatever time you can spare would be a great help, Johnson said.

If you would rather assist with the clean-up after the thrift sale on Saturday afternoon, your help would be appreciated then as well, he said.
