Elk Mound school district to continue monthly newsletter
by LeAnn R. Ralph
ELK MOUND — The Elk Mound Board of Education has decided the school district should continue mailing out the monthly newsletter.
Eric Wright, school district administrator, said at the June 19 meeting he had wanted newsletter distribution on the agenda so school board members could think about what they wanted to do.
Some school districts send their newsletter out every other month and some school districts send their newsletter out quarterly, Wright said.
The “Elk Mound School News” always includes a photograph on the front page and a “From the Board Room” message.
The June newsletter’s “From the Board Room,” for example, thanked students, parents, staff and the community for their support during the past school year.
The June newsletter also congratulates the Class of 2023 and wishes them success in their future endeavors.
In addition, “From the Board Room” for June includes information about a few construction projects over the summer, and letting people know that they will see more equipment and workers around the buildings and that they should make sure to remind their children to avoid construction areas for safety purposes.
The “From the Board Room” feature also includes an invitation every month to students, staff, and community members to attend the next school board meeting, which in this case was Monday, June 19, in the board room at the high school.
For many years, the Elk Mound Board of Education has had two school board members available from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. prior to school board meetings to answer questions or hear any concerns or comments, with the regular board meeting starting at 7 p.m.
“From the Board Room” concludes with “We welcome you to join us!”and lists all of the current Board of Education members.
The Elk Mound school district newsletter also regularly contains letters from the superintendent and all three building principals that include news about recent events and information about upcoming events.
The newsletter also publishes school board meeting minutes that have been approved by the board, as well as the treasurer’s report, and in June, information about driver education, summer school, the Eau Claire Children’s Theater 2023 summer classes, summer fitness activities, a list of the 2023 graduates, and news about forensics, National Honor Society and the school district calendar for the 2023-2024 school year.
The school district has heard from enough people who say they like getting the newsletter every month that the Board of Eduction decided to keep issuing the newsletter every month, Wright said.
