Jess Olson has been selected by the members of the Glenwood City Council to fill the open seat on the six-member board.
She was one of four people who submitted letters of interest to fill that seat. At last months meeting of the City Council, the four letters were read, but none of the applicants were present at the May 15th meeting of the City Council, so they put off filling the open seat until those wishing to serve could appear before the Council.
At Mondays night meeting three of the four candidates were introduced and asked to say a few words about themselves and why they wanted to be on the council.
The four were Olson, Justin Kramer, Bruce Curran and Terri Ross. Olson informed the members of the council that she has been a member of the ambulance service for some time and that she wanted to give back to the community and concluded with “it would be nice to have a girl on the Council.”
Curran indicated that he lives in a house on East Oak Street that they are returning to a single family home and he wished to serve the community.
Kramer noted they he had just moved into the community last October after serving in the National Guard for the past 22 years.
Ross, who was not present at the Monday evening meeting, sent a note to Mayor Rob Unruh saying that she was out of the country at this time, but she was still interested in the position.
Each member of the Council wrote their choice for filling the open seat on a ballot, and Mayor Unruh read the results appointing Olson to the seat. He thanked the other candidates and suggested that they stay involved. Olson’s term will run until next April.
