ARCADIA — Although the Colfax-Elk Mound boys’ golf team was not able to advance to the sectional meet, its season is not yet over.
Colfax-Elk Mound just missed a sectional team berth when it finished fifth in the WIAA Division 2 Arcadia Boys’
Golf Regional held Tuesday, May 23 at Trempealeau Mountain Golf Course in Holmen after scoring a solid 346 strokes in the nine-team tournament, just five strokes behind fourth-place finisher and Dunn-St. Croix champion Durand-Arkansaw.
The top four teams advanced to sectional play which was held yesterday (May 30) at Lake Wissota Golf Course in Chippewa Falls.
Junior Zane Brice, however, was there representing the local squad after he finished as one of four individuals at the Arcadia Regional to earn a sectional berth. Brice shot an impressive 79 on the par-71 Trempealeau Mountain course to finish tied for tenth place in the 18-hole regional competition.
All five of Colfax-Elk Mound golfers finished with sub-100 scores in the Arcadia Regional.
Besides Brice’s 79, freshman Orion Nichols shot an 85 to finished in a three-way tie for 17th, junior Christian Ebert shot an 89 to place 23rd, sophomore Beau Borgwardt tallied a 93 to take 30th and freshman Lucas Svee carded a 95 to finish 33rd. There were 44 competitors in all.
Senior Andrew Bauer of McDonell Catholic/Regis was the regional tournament medalist with an even-par 71 while fellow senior and teammate Ben Biskupski finished second with a one-over-par 72 to lead McDonell Catholic/Regis to a second straight regional championship with a low score of 295.
Bloomer finished in second place with a 300, host Arcadia tallied a 338 and Durand-Arkansaw placed fourth as all three also moved on to the sectional meet at Lake Wissota.
Colfax-Elk Mound came in fifth with a 346 followed by Black River Falls at 353, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau with a 366, Stanley-Boyd shot a 372 and Altoona finished last with a score of 385.
The other three individual sectional qualifiers were Isaac Brenner of Stanly-Boyd, Wyatt Madvig and Chris Muir both from Black River Falls.
