CAMERON — Competing in the WIAA Division 3 track and field sectional meet held in Cameron May 25, Colfax qualified two girls and a boy, along with a relay team for the girls for the WIAA state track and field championships June 2-3 at UW-La Crosse.
The top four places in each event move on to state while the top eight score team points.
The Colfax girls finished fifth of 32 teams with 37 points while the boys were 21st of 33 teams tallying seven points. Fall Creek won the girls’ division with 93.50 points and also the boys’ division with 57 points.
Molly Heidorn makes her third trip for the girls, placing third in the 1,600 m run in 5:16.18 and also third in the 3,200 m run at 11:45.92. Heidorn was just four seconds behind her nemesis Courtney Stadter of Mondovi in the 3200 race. Heidorn also helped the 4×800 m relay team qualify with a runner up spot behind the Fall Creek foursome with a time of 10:07.48. Team members include Kaysen Goodell, Janica Larson and Hannah Peterson. (Peterson took the afternoon off from her starting spot on the Colfax softball team who happened to win the regional championship during the track meet.)
Jeanette Hydukovich won the discus throw with a heave of 125-05 and just missed qualifying in the shot put with a fifth place at 34-09.25.
Nick Jensen punched his ticket to the big show with a fourth place in the discus throw at 136-01, four inches short of third place.
Others competing were Goodell with a sixth place in the 800 m run in 2:27.89 and Peterson was 11th in the same event in 2:37.36. Clara Hydukovich was tenth in the discus with a toss of 90-01 and the boys 4×800 relay team of Ashton Yarrington, David Lyrek, Charlie Charbonneau and Theo Hovde were seventh in 9:00.05. Hovde also finished 11th in the 200 m run in :24.68.
