Colfax advances seven individuals and two relays to sectional meet

COLFAX — Competing on their home grounds, the Colfax track and field teams sent five girls and two boys along with a relay team from both the boys and girls to the sectional meet in Cameron by virtue of placing in the top four spots in their respective events at the WIAA Division 3 regional meet Monday, May 22.
There were 12 teams competing in the regional, and with the first eight places earning team points, the girls finished third while the boys tied for ninth place.
Sectional qualifiers included Jeanette Hydukovich with two first places, winning the shot put at 35-04 and the discus with a toss of 120-02. Molly Heidorn won the 3,200 m run in 12:31.73 and was second in the 1600 m run in 5:33.17. Kaysen Goodell claimed a runner up spot in the 800 m run in 2:27.71 and the 4×800 relay team with Goodell, Janica Larson, Hannah Peterson and Heidorn also took second with a time of 10:20.54. Clara Hydukovich seemingly came out of nowhere for a fourth place in the discus at 94-05 while Peterson was fourth in the 800 m run in 2:32.92.
Qualifying for the boys were Nick Jensen with a third place in the discus with a heave of 129-04 and the 4×800 relay squad consisting of Ashton Yarrington, David Lyrek, Charlie Charboneau and Theo Hovde with a time of 9:06.60 while Hovde claimed a fourth in the 200 m dash in :24.11
Scoring team points for the girls were Larson in the 400 m run for fifth place, Kennedy Shane in the shot put for seventh place along with Lauren Becker in seventh place in the 400 m run and Shane in eighth place in the discus. Putting up team points for the boys were fifth place finishers Yarrington in the 1600 m run and Jensen in the shot put. Skyler Maves was sixth in the discus, while seventh places came from Hovde in the long jump and Yarrington in the 3,200 m run and Charboneau was eighth in the 800 m run.
Other competitors were Becker, ninth in the pole vault and 17th in the 200 m dash, Ava Sedivy 14th in the 200 m dash and 15th in the 100 m dash and Clara Hydukovich 16th in the shot put. For the boys, Maves ended up 10th in the shot put, Logan Swartz was 11th in the 400 m run, Mark Sonnentag 13th in the 3,200 m run and 17th in the 1,600 m run, Elijah Obermueller 24th in the 100 m dash and John Riebe, 24th in the discus and 29th in the shot put.
