DURAND — The annual Dunn-St. Croix Conference track and field meet took place Tuesday, May 16 under pleasant conditions at Bauer Built Sports Complex in Durand.
The Colfax girls, led by individual winners Molly Heidorn and Jeanette Hydukovich, along with the 4×800 meter relay team placed fifth of the eight teams. The boys did not have any conference champions but Nick Jensen earned two-second place spots along with the 4×800 meter relay to finish in seventh place.
The top eight places earned team points with Mondovi winning the girls’ division while Elk Mound took the boys’ division.
Heidorn is now a three-time conference champ after winning the 1,600 m run in 5:19.37 and was also the anchor of the relay team along with Hannah Peterson, Janica Larson and Kaysen Goodell as they ran a time of 10:37.25. Their time was more than a minute faster than the runner-up team from Elmwood-Plum City.
Hydukovich cleaned up in the throwing events, winning the discus with a heave of 123’ 3” and the shot put at 33’ 11”.
Heidorn claimed second in the 3,200 m run with a time of 12:07.33 while Goodell also took the runner-up spot in the 800 m run at 2:30.32. Goodell was also fourth in the 3,200 m run at 13:40.01.
The Lady Vikings seem to be strong in the throwing events as Kennedy Shane placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 30’ 7” and Clara Hydukovich was fourth in the discus at 86’ 11”.
Peterson added team points with a fifth place in the 800 m run with a time of 2:42.74 and an eighth place in the 400 m run at 1:06.18 while Lauren Becker pulled off an eighth place in the pole vault with a leap of 5’ 6”.
Rounding out the Colfax competitors were Larson with a ninth place in the 400 m run in 1:09.91 Clara Hydukovich with a 10th place in the shot put at 23’ 6”, Ava Sedivy finished 15th in both the 100 m dash in :15.13 and the 200 m dash in 30.68 and Becker was 16th in the 200 m dash in :31.42.
The boys’ 4×800 meter relay could not have come any closer to winning the race as Ashton Yarrington, David Lyrek, Charlie Charbonneau and Theo Hovde clocked in at 8:59.53 while the Glenwood City team came in at 8:59.36.

Jensen earned his runner-up spots with a discus heave of 130’ 10” and a shot put toss of 44’ 1.5”. Hovde picked up a third place in the 200 m dash in :24.58 and a sixth place in the 400 m run in :56.58 and the long jump with a leap of 18’ 0.5”. Skyler Maves claimed a fourth in the discus, tossing the plate 118’ and was also sixth in the shot put at 39’ 4.25” while Yarrington took seventh in the 3,200 m run at 11:28.32 and was eighth in the 1,600 m run in 5:13.00.
Logan Swartz came close to earning a team point with a ninth place in the 200 m dash in :26.37 while finishing in tenth place were Lyrek in the 200 m dash at :26.37, Charbonneau in the 800 m run in 2:22.20 and the high jump at 5’ and Swartz in the long jump at 16’ 2”. In 11th place were Lyrek in the 400 m run in :58.27 and John Riebe in the discus at 97’ 1” while Mark Sonnentag finished 13th in the 3,200 m run in 13:24.77 and 15th in the 1,600 m run, clocking in at 6:10.17.
Swartz was 16th in the 400 m run in 1:01.95, Elijah Obermueller finished 19th in the 100 m dash at :14.90 and Riebe was 20th in the shot put at 29’ 11”.
Colfax hosted the WIAA Division 3 regional meet Monday. The top four place winners in each event will advance to the WIAA sectional meet this Thursday, May 25 in Cameron.
