AMERY — Places and points were hard to obtain at the highly competitive Amery Invitational.
The May 2 track and field meet featured several of the areas top teams from Middle Border, Lakeland, Heart O’ North, and Dunn-St. Croix Conferences
With such stiff competition, the Boyceville Bulldogs had just a few athletes place high enough to earn team points which went to the top eight place finishers in each event.
Juniors Caden Wold and Peter Wheeldon accounted for all 29 of Bulldog boys’ points – good for ninth out of 17 schools.
Seniors Haylie Rasmussen and Abbygail Schlough along with freshman Halle Tonn combined for the Boyceville girls’ 6.67 points which put the team 17th out of 18 squads.
Caden Wold earned Boyceville’s only first-place finish in Amery when he leaped 22’ 1” to claim the top spot in the long jump. Wold also finished sixth in the 100 meters with a time of :11.58.
Peter Wheeldon was the runner-up in the 400 meter dash thanks to a time of :53.07 and placed third in the 200 meter sprint with a time of :23.62.
Abbygail Schlough took sixth in the triple jump with a best effort of 32’ 0.75” and the pole vault by clearing 8’ 6”. Hallie Tonn was one of seven pole vaulters to tie for seventh after clean vaults at 8’. Haylie Rasmussen went 4’ 8” in the high jump to finish in a four-way tie eighth.
The Bulldogs are slated to compete in a pair of meets this week. They were in Colfax Tuesday and host a meet Thursday. The Dunn-St. Croix Conference championship will be held next Tuesday, May 16 at Bauer Built Sports Complex in Durand.
