Common Council chooses Joel Klatt as Glenwood City’s new police chief

JOEL KLATT
GLENWOOD CITY — Glenwood City police officer Joel Klatt has a new title – Chief of Police.
Following a closed session meeting Monday night, April 24, the Glenwood City common council extended an offer to Klatt to become the city’s next police chief and he accepted. This news was relayed to the Tribune Press Reporter by newly-elected mayor Rob Unruh.
Klatt joined the Glenwood City police department in September of last year after serving as an officer in the Grantsburg police department since June of 2007.
Klatt was one of three finalists that the common council had held interviews with over the past couple of weeks. The other finalist were Adam Malean of Wilson and Thomas Sweeny of Somerset. Malean worked for Glenwood City from May of 2012 to July of 2021 and is currently a part-time officer with the Village of Roberts. Sweeny is currently employed by the Woodbury, MN Police Department and is a 20-year veteran of the Collier County Sheriff’s Department in Naples, Florida.
Klatt replaces former Chief Robert Darwin who resigned in February to accept a captain’s position with the Spooner Police Department.
