In what ended up to be summer-like weather last week, the Viking track and field teams took part in the Eleva-Strum Early Bird meet April 11 then two days later competed at the Elk Mound Invitational.

The Viking girls placed fourth out of 10 teams in the competition with help from two first place wins by both Molly Heidorn and Jeanette Hydukovich. Heidorn won the 1,600 m run in 5:43.92 and took the 3,200 m run in 12:42. Hydukovich won the shot put with a heave of 35’ 4.5” and the discus with a throw of 120’ 11”. Kennedy Shane was second in the discus and third in the shot put for team points.
Third places were earned by Kaysen Goodell in the 1,600 m run and Hannah Peterson in the 800 m run and 400 m run. Janica Larson earned an eighth place in the 800 m run. Ava Sedivy was 11th in the 100 m dash and 12th in the 200 m dash and Lauren Becker finished 12th in the 400 m run.
The Colfax boys placed fifth of 11 teams for the day and were led by senior Nick Jensen who won the discus throw at 125’ 5” and freshman Charlie Charbonneau, the winner of the 800 m run in 2:24.88. Jensen took second in the shot put while Theo Hovde claimed fourth in the 400 m run and sixth in the 200 m dash. Charbonneau added a fifth place in the 400 m run and David Lyrek was also fifth in the 800 m run.
Ashton Yarrington was 10th in the 1,600 m run as was John Riebe in the shot put, and distance runner Mark Sonnentag also took 10th in the 3,200 m run and 12th in the 1,600 m run. Logan Swartz finished 15th in the 400 m run, Riebe placed 16th in the discus and Nate Edwards was 23rd in the shot put and 21st in the discus.
In the 100 m dash, Mihretu Emch was 23rd and Elijah Obermueller was 26th while Emch was 19th in the 200 m dash and Obermueller 24th in the same race.
Two mixed relay teams consisting of boys and girls took first for the Vikings including the 4×400 with Charbonneau, Larson, Peterson and Hovde and the 4×800 with Yarrington, Sonnentag, Heidorn and Goodell.

For the first time in at least 13 years, Elk Mound was able to host a track meet on their newly renovated track. With five teams competing, the Viking boys and girls placed fourth with Prescott winning both divisions.
Placing first for the boys were Jensen again in the discus, upping his distance from the previous meet to 130’ 08”, and the 4×800 relay team consisting of Yarrington, Lyrek, Hovde and Charbonneau in 9:32.
Charbonneau added a second in the 800 m run, Lyrek took third in the 800 and both of them along with Swartz and Hovde claimed third in the 4×400. Jensen was also third in the shot put. Hovde added a fifth in the 400 m run and Sonnentag claimed seventh in the 1,600 and Swartz was eighth in the 400 m run.
Sonnentag added a 12th in the 800 m run, and in 13th place were Riebe in the discus throw and Swartz in the long jump. Emch placed 16th in the long jump and 22nd in the 100 m dash while Obermueller was 25th in the same race. In the shot put, Riebe was 17th, Edwards 18th and Drake Knutson 23rd, and in the discus, Edwards finished 18th and Knutson 24th.
Hydukovich barely broke a sweat on her way to winning the shot put with a throw of 33’ 7.5” and the discus at 109’ 7”. Another first place for the girls came from the 4×800 relay consisting of Becker, Larson, Goodell and Heidorn in 11:14. Shane snared second place in both of the throwing events while Heidorn was third in the 400 m run. The 4×400 relay took fourth with Becker, Sedivy, Goodell and Heidorn, and Clara Hydukovich was fifth in the discus and 14th in the shot put while Larson was seventh in the 400 m run and Goodell was right behind her in eighth.
Jenifer Maves placed 10th in the discus and 17th in the shot put, Karyn DeLorge was 10th in the shot put and 11th in the discus, Sedivy took 15th in the 100 m dash and Rosie Sonnentag finished 18th in the discus and 23rd in the shot put.
