The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, Wheaton Fire and Rescue, Chippewa County Coroner’s Office, and the Eau Claire Ambulance service responded to a medical alarm at a residence on 20th St. in Elk Mound (Town of Wheaton). The alarm company stated that the resident indicated there was a fire.
Upon the arrival of Wheaton first responders they discovered the residence engulfed in smoke. First responders and fire personnel entered the home where they found and removed the sole occupant of the residence. Life saving attempts were made immediately, but unfortunately, they were unsuccessful.
The victim was identified as Carolyn A. Nelson, age 84.
There is no foul play suspected in the matter, and the fire is believed to be an accidental fire.
