The Colfax softball squad split a pair of games last week.
The Vikings blasted Boyceville 21-6 in a non-conference contest played indoors at the Valley Sports Academy in Lake Hallie April 4.
Two days later, Colfax lost for the first time this season when they were beaten by the Lady Buffaloes 11-6 in the conference opener in Mondovi April 6.
Colfax will play road games in Durand on Thursday and Spring Valley on Friday. The Vikings return home to host rival Elk Mound next Monday, April 17.
Colfax girls blast Bulldogs
With the weather still not cooperating for area ball teams, the Colfax softball team met the Boyceville Bulldogs in the VSA Facility in Lake Hallie for an indoor softball game Tuesday, April 4. In what began as a close game turned into a rout as the Vikings bombed the Bulldogs 21-6 in a game that was called after three innings due to the 15 run advantage by the Vikings.
It was 4-4 after the first inning but the Vikings erupted for 11 runs in the second inning and six in the third to lead 21-4. Boyceville attempted to keep the game going but could muster just two runs in the bottom of the inning resulting in the final score.
Colfax freshman Brynn Sikora had quite the game, hitting for the cycle with a single, double, triple and home run (not necessarily in that order) bringing in five runs and scoring three runs herself. Alexis Schindler batted 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored, Ella Peterson slammed a home run and picked up two RBIs, Jada Anderson collected three RBIs and came home three times while McKenna Shipman had just one hit but scored four times and stole two bases.
Mallory Field hurled all three innings and gave up three hits with three walks and three strikeouts. The Vikings committed five errors in the field and the Bulldogs didn’t help themselves with nine errors.
Vikings fall to Mondovi
Although it was a cool and windy day, the Colfax softball team traveled to Mondovi last Thursday, April 6 and managed to get in their first outdoor game of the season. Things didn’t go in the Vikings favor however as they lost 11-6 to the Buffaloes.
Colfax led 2-0 after a half inning of play but Mondovi picked up three runs in the bottom of the first and tacked on five in the second for a 8-2 advantage. The Vikings made an effort to come back with three tallies in the fifth but it wasn’t enough to pull ahead.
Hannah Peterson and Brynn Sikora both had a pair of hits for Colfax with Sikora slamming a double with two RBIs and Peterson brought three runners home. Alexis Schindler picked up an RBI while Jada Anderson and Emma Medin each stole a base successfully.
Mallory Field pitched six innings and gave up eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts to absorb the loss.
