COLFAX — After losing two-time letter winner Luke Blanchard via graduation, Colfax-Elk Mound golf coach Jordan Kongshaug will look for a pair of experienced players to help lead the team and hopefully improve on their third-place finish in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference a year ago.
Zane Brice, who earned second-team D-SC all conference honors last year, and Christian Ebert are the only two golfers back who earned a varsity letter last season but they are joined by Connor Albricht, Matt Hanson, Lauren Horchem, Kyle Irwin, Ethan Oas and Ty Meyer who all competed with Hanson and Oas both having varsity experience.
Beau Borgwardt, Mason Mohr, Orion Nichols and Lucas Svee appear to have some potential to help the team, according to Kongshaug who begins his third season leading the team.
“We have a group of kids that are motivated to work hard and seem to enjoy golf,” Kongshaug said. “Our goals will be for each individual golfer to keep working to improve throughout the season. Working to shave four strokes over nines holes throughout the season would be a solid statistical goal,” he added.
Kongshaug expects Durand to be the favorite to win the conference this year since they return a lot of experienced and solid players. Glenwood City is coming off a trip to the state tournament and has a solid program, also.
“We are hoping we can keep improving so we can be in the mix,” he commented.
Obviously, the weather has not been cooperative so some scheduling of matches may be adjusted.
Ryan Krall will once again serve as the assistant coach for the team.
