On a cold and windy day last Thursday, April 6, the Viking baseball team traveled to Mondovi for their season opener. Colfax didn’t fare very well as they lost the Dunn- St. Croix Conference contest 18-0 in five innings.
The Vikings had just two hits in the game, one each by Zach Hiitola and Brodee Everson. The team drew four walks and Mitch Medin stole a base. Medin pitched three innings, giving up six hits and nine runs and Mason Yarrington hurled the final inning issuing five hits and nine runs.
Mondovi, who led 4-0 after three inning and scored 14 runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning, was led by Austin Remington who drilled three home runs – two in one inning – and picked up 10 of the Buffalo 16 RBIs. Mondovi finished with 11 hits in the contest five of which went for extra bases including Remington’s three dingers.
Colfax has a pair of road games later this week, playing in Durand on Thursday and at Spring Valley on Friday. Colfax will then host Elk Mound next Monday, April 17 for its home opener.
