April 4 election results: Prince prevails for Colfax village president

COLFAX — Jeff Prince has won the April 4 election for Colfax Village president.
Prince filed nomination papers and was on the ballot and faced challenger, Carey Davis, who was a registered write-in candidate.
Prince received 214 votes for village president, and Davis received 73 votes.
Prince also was on the ballot for the village trustee position that he currently holds and received 197 votes.
Jen Rud, another incumbent on the village board whose position was up for election, did not file nomination papers by the deadline in January but ran in the April 4 election as a registered write-in and received 29 votes.
Village trustee Margaret Burcham was on the ballot as well and received 186 votes.
Davis is an incumbent village trustee, and the position he currently holds was not up for election this year.
According to state law, in order for votes to count for write-in candidates, the candidates must register with the village clerk by the deadline, which was March 31, the Friday before the April 4 election.
If there are open positions on the village board for which there were no candidates, the village board has the option of soliciting letters of interest for the open positions and then appointing someone to any open positions.
The village board also has the option of leaving any positions open until the next election for those positions.
Village trustees serve two-year terms.
Prince will replace current one-term village president Jody Albricht, who filed a declaration of non-candidacy by the December deadline.
In addition to Albricht, Burcham, Prince, Rud and Davis, Anne Jenson and Gary Stene serve on the Colfax Village Board.
All election totals reported here are unofficial results until after the Board of Canvassers has met.
County turnout
According to information included on the election results page posted by the Dunn County clerk, Dunn County had a 47 percent voter turnout for the April 4 election.
The county has 26,153 registered voters, and 33,490 eligible voters.
Dunn County has a total population of 45,547. Various news sites are reporting that statewide voter turnout was 35 percent for the April 4 election.
More than 1.7 million people cast ballots statewide.
In the 2020 spring election, which was also a presidential primary, 1.6 million people voted.
Colfax school board
Four candidates were on the ballot for three positions on the Colfax Board of Education.
The candidates included three incumbent board members, Jaci Ackerlund, Ken Bjork and Jodi Kiekhafer.
Denise Solberg was on the ballot for school board as well.
Kiekhafer received 872 votes, and Ackerlund received 834 votes, while Bork received 740 votes.
Solberg received 669 votes.
EM village board
Three candidates filed nomination papers for four positions on the Elk Mound Village Board in the April 4 election, and one of the candidates filed nomination papers for two positions.
The positions held by Greg Kipp (village president), Bob Bachman (village trustee), Jesse Jenson (village trustee) and Terry Stamm (village trustee) were up for election.
Jenson filed a notification of non-candidacy for a village trustee position by the deadline in December.
Incumbents Terry Stamm and Robert Bachman were on the ballot for village trustee, and Patricia Hahn, who recently retired as village clerk-treasurer after more than 40 years, also was on the ballot for trustee.
Stamm was on the ballot for village president as well.
Kipp filed a notification of non-candidacy for the village president position by the deadline in December.
Stamm received 179 votes for village president.
Hahn gathered 134 votes for village trustee, while Bachman brought in 142 votes, and Stamm received 135 votes for trustee.
EM school board
Three candidates filed nomination papers for three positions in the April 4 election for the Elk Mound Board of Education, while two incumbents filed notifications of non-candidacy.
The positions up for election are currently filled by Mark Cedarblade, Patrick Rhude and Timothy Sivertson.
Cedarblade and Rhude filed a notification of non-candidacy for the three-year term positions by the December deadline.
Sivertson, along with Kayla M. Lombard and Troy A. Koser were on the ballot.
Lombard gathered 1,016 votes, and Koser received 916 votes, while Sivertson tallied 939 votes.
Town of Colfax
Four candidates were on the ballot April 4 for four positions in the Town of Colfax.
Incumbent town chair Dean Logslett, incumbent town board Supervisor 1 Jason Klukas, incumbent town board Supervisor 2 Gary Bjork and incumbent treasurer Kyra Pickett were on the ballot.
Logslett gathered 322 votes. Klukas received 308 votes, while Bjork tallied 319 votes.
Pickett received 308 votes for treasurer.
Town of Elk Mound
Five candidates were on the ballot April 4 for five positions in the Town of Elk Mound.
Incumbent town chair Tony Christopherson, incumbent Supervisor 1 Jeffrey Klemp, incumbent Supervisor 2 Dennis Rhead, incumbent town clerk Carolyn Loechler and incumbent treasurer Anne Wahl were on the ballot.
Christopherson received 442 votes, and Klemp received 423 votes, while Rhead received 419 votes.
Loechler gathered 459 votes for clerk, and Wahl received 473 votes for treasurer.
Town of Grant
Five candidates were on the ballot for four positions on the Grant Town Board in the April 4 election.
Incumbent town chair Mark Dietsche, candidates for Supervisor 1 Timothy Lauffer and Benjamin Pattison, incumbent Supervisor 2 Brad Larson and incumbent town treasurer James G. Ackerlund were on the ballot.
Dietsche received 153 votes for chair.
For Supervisor 1, Lauffer gathered 86 votes, and Mattison received 65.
Larson earned 141 votes for Supervisor 2, and Ackerlund pulled in 149 votes for treasurer.
David Buchner currently serves as Supervisor 2.
Otter Creek
Three candidates were on the ballot for three positions on the Otter Creek Town Board.
Incumbent Supervisor 2 LeAnn R. Ralph was on the ballot for town chair.
Incumbent Supervisor 1 Cecil Hayes also was on the ballot, and Robert Bernier ran for the Supervisor 2 position.
Ralph received 122 votes for chair, and Hayes received 119 votes, while Bernier received 118 votes.
Sand Creek
Six candidates were running for six positions in the Town of Sand Creek April 4.
Incumbent town chair Michael Nelson, incumbent Supervisors John Loy and Joel Smith, clerk candidate Pamela Meinen, incumbent treasurer Melanie Donath and incumbent constable Jerry Lofthus were on the ballot.
Nelson took in 165 votes for town chair, while Loy gathered 129 votes for supervisor, and Smith received 150 votes.
Meinen received 168 votes for clerk, and Donath received 160 votes for treasurer.
Lofthus pulled in 160 votes for constable.
Michael Nelson currently serves as the interim clerk.
Town of Spring Brook
Five candidates were on the ballot for five positions in the Town of Spring Brook.
Incumbent town chair John E. Schaefer, incumbent Supervisor 1 Michael Moose Hase, incumbent Supervisor 2 Jerry M. Hotchkiss, incumbent town clerk Mary L. Strand and incumbent treasurer Colleen Mensing were on the ballot.
Schaefer received 462 votes for town chair, and Hase received 465 votes, while Hotchkiss pulled in 456 votes.
Strand received 488 votes for clerk, and Mensing received 466 votes for treasurer.
Town of Tainter
Three candidates were on the ballot for three positions in the Town of Tainter.
Incumbent town chair Randy Valaske, incumbent Supervisor Jerry Mrdutt and incumbent Supervisor Jeremy Kozumplik were on the ballot.
Valaske received 634 votes for chair, and Mrdutt gathered 617 votes, while Kozumplik took in 575 votes.
Town of Wilson
Five candidates were on the ballot in the Town of Wilson for five positions.
Incumbent town chair Raymond J. Glaser, incumbent Supervisor 1 Wayne Christopherson, candidate for Supervisor 2 Dale Lien, candidate for clerk Amy Knutson and candidate for town treasurer Kim Lewis were on the ballot.
Glaser received 127 votes for town chair, and Christopherson gathered 126 votes for Supervisor 1, while Leon took in 129 votes for Supervisor 2.
Knutson received 127 votes for clerk, and Lewis received 126 votes for treasurer.
Susan Varnes currently serves as town clerk, while Becky Steffe serves as town treasurer and Michael Steffe serves as Supervisor 2.
