Friends of The Glenwood City Public Library needs more friends and donors — Will you be our friend?

The picture above is of the new Glenwood City Public Library Donor Board.
The Friends of the Glenwood City Library are looking for Friends — people who are interested in actively supporting the library.
The library has been a part of our community since 1900, twenty years after the city itself was established. The broad goal of any library is to serve the community in which it resides. But, that can’t be accomplished solely by the library staff. That’s where the Friends come in….volunteers who actively support the library whether through volunteerism or through a donation.
Officially established as a 501(c)3 in 2014 as the Friends of the Glenwood City Public Library, Inc., the organization gained exempt status under the IRS. As a donor that means gifts to The Friends of The Library, may be tax deductible, plus it gives the organization access to funding available only to tax exempt groups. Our mission statement specifies that we “exists to help maintain and grow the services of the library” and membership is open to anyone who is willing to put forth effort on behalf of that mission. The group is governed by by-laws and a slate of officers with meetings currently held monthly.
The Friends can offer financial support for special library projects or services, provide volunteer assistance with programs and events, and help with needs within the library. Over the years the Friends have held fundraisers such as book and bake sales, a wine tasting event, raffles and silent auctions, and the Pick-a-Duck. Cell phones and ink cartridges were collected for recycling and payment. Grants have been obtained for double sided sidewalk signs, a popcorn machine, Keurig machine and supplies, computers, chairs, large print and audiobooks, summer reading programs and more. The Friends have assisted with movies in the park, sponsored Valentine box decorating, provided the dunk tank at National Safe Night Out, co-hosted author Wm. Kent Krueger’s visit, Halloween and Christmas events.
Most recently the Friends secured significant funds through Bremer and Andersen grants and the Power of 100 campaign for the library’s capital projects for improved technology, equipment and furnishings for the new building.
Please remember if you wish to make a financial donation your gift to The Friends of The Library, a 501(c)3 organization, are tax deductible to the full extent of the law under IRS and Wisconsin tax regulations when itemizing deductions. Please consult your accountant for tax advice. Donations may be either mailed to the Glenwood City Library PO Box 247 Glenwood City, WI 54013 or dropped off at the library.
If you are interested in becoming a Friend of the Glenwood City Library and helping to promote the library through special events and programs or raising funds to purchase needed materials and equipment, please contact us through the Glenwood City Library. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us. Everyone needs more Friends!
