FIRST IN KITS — The Colfax Rescue Squad was able to buy two “first in jump bags” to consolidate the previous system of three bags. Under the old system, there was always a chance EMTs would bring the wrong first-in kit. With two bags that have identical contents, there is no guesswork about whether the bag iw the “right one.” —photo submitted

COLFAX — A nearly $800 grant from Dunn Energy Cooperative’s Operation Round Up has allowed the Colfax Rescue Squad to update the ambulance service’s “first in” kits.
Colfax Rescue ordered the “first in jump bags” last spring right after receiving the $779.90 grant from Dunn Energy Cooperative, said Don Knutson, director of the Colfax Rescue Squad.
Supply chain issues delayed delivery of the bags until December, he said.
“These kits are used to carry our first supplies needed on scene based on dispatch information,” Knutson said.
The two new bags replace the three bags that the Colfax Rescue Squad used previously.
With three bags, “there were times we did not bring the correct bag into the call,” Knutson said.
“With these new bags, we consolidated three bags into one, and now we enter the scene with one bag, which now allows us to have everything we need for about 90 percent of our calls,” he said.
Knutson said that he and the Colfax EMTs are deeply appreciative of Dunn Energy Cooperative’s Operation Round Up grant, which gives them an opportunity to improve the service they provide to the residents of Dunn County.
Operation Round Up is a voluntary program funded by the members of Dunn Energy Cooperative. Instead of paying the exact amount on the energy bill, the amount is rounded up to the next dollar for those who have chosen to take part in the program.
For example, if the member’s energy bill is $125.52, the member will pay $126 for the previous month’s service, and Operation Round Up will receive 48 cents.
According to Dunn Energy’s website, the average member donation is $6 to $12 per year.
Dunn Energy has more than 7,000 members.
The Operation Round Up application form is available online at www.dunnenergy.com. Go to the pull-down tab under the “Programs and Services” link at the top of the page.
Application deadlines are March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31.
